The Isuzu Fargo was a pickup truck produced by the Isuzu automobile manufacturer . It was built as a chassis for superstructures, flatbed trucks , minibuses , van LS based on minibuses / station wagons and as a panel van . On request, there was also a high roof and an extended wheelbase as well as all-wheel drive . It was intended to expand Isuzu's range of commercial vehicles in addition to the Isuzu N-series and Isuzu F-series . It has also been exported to New Zealand, Australia and some European countries such as the Nordic countries . In addition, it was later also built in Europe and sold as Bedford / Isuzu Midi and also locally as Isuzu Midi in Tunisia. In 2001 the Isuzu Como replaced him .

In December 1980 it was introduced in Japan as a panel van and minibus / station wagon. It was offered with 1.6 and 1.8 liter petrol engines and a 1.8 liter diesel engine. In addition to 4-speed manual transmissions , 3-speed automatic transmissions were also available for the petrol models. All models were equipped with radial tires , power steering was available as an option. With the gear lever only two seats were possible at the front. Three seats with steering wheel gearshift. As Isuzu WFR , it was exported to New Zealand and some European countries.

In August 1981 a 2.0L diesel engine with a 5-speed manual transmission was introduced. In March 1982, a 2.0 liter gasoline engine, 5-speed manual gearbox and, if desired, an automatic gearbox replaced the 1.6 and 1.8 liter gasoline engines. The 1.8 L diesel engine was omitted. In July 1982, the Van LS based on the minibus with variable seats and a central sliding roof was introduced as standard. The Fargo was introduced in Australia as the Holden Shuttle and built until 1990.

From November 1983 the LS was also available with all-wheel drive in conjunction with the diesel engine . In January 1984 the LS and the minibus received a 2.2-liter turbo diesel as standard. From November 1984 all-wheel drive was optionally available for all models and a 4-speed automatic transmission (not with all-wheel drive). It was not until January 1987 that the automatic transmission was also available for all-wheel drive.

Isuzu Midi Africa

The Fargo was produced by Industries Mécaniques Maghrébines as Isuzu Midi for the local market until 1988.

Isuzu Midi Europe

The export of the Fargo to Europe ceased at the end of 1985. In January 1986 the cockpit was redesigned and a modernized Fargo was built and sold in Europe as the Isuzu Midi .

Small truck / chassis

In October 1988 a small truck (flatbed up to 7.5 tons GG) and chassis for bodies were added to the range - the Fargo received the modernized front of the European Isuzu Midi.

Facelift 1991

From January 1991 the Fargo was delivered with a 2.4-liter turbo diesel engine, which replaced the previous diesel engines. Both the body and the interior have been modernized. A new dashboard and a changed position of the gearshift lever now also enabled three seats in the front.

The petrol engine was discontinued in August 1993 and only the 2.4 L TD was available. Three-point seat belts were pulled in in the passenger area and the optional air conditioning system was CFC- free.

The Fargo 2 was introduced in August 1995. It was now based on the Nissan Homy E 24. The Fargo 2 was only available as a panel van and minibus. The truck version was covered by the program of the Isuzu N series , which is now available from 3.5 to GG. The LS has now been introduced as a wagon . Initially the drive consisted of the type MA20S and KA20DE (each 2.0 L) petrol engines with 67KW or 88KW and the Nissan diesel engines type 2.7L TD27 with 63KW and 96KW. The 2.7l TD27 with 63KW was replaced in 1997 by the 3.2L QD32 with 74KW and direct injection . In June 1999 the KA24DE 2.4 L with 74KW and direct injection petrol engine replaced the KA20DE. In May 2001 the Isuzu Como replaced the Isuzu Fargo II.

Isuzu Filly 1997-2002

In July 1997, the Isuzu Filly replaced the Fargo DX Wagon. It was based on the Nissan Elgrand .
