Iwan Kulyk (Bishop)

Iwan Kulyk ( Ukrainian Іва́н Кули́к , Russian Иван Кулик ; born March 16, 1979 in Perewoloka , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union , today Ukraine ) is a Ukrainian clergyman and Ukrainian Greek Catholic bishop of Kamyanets-Podilskyj .

Life

Ivan Kulyk began studying philosophy and Catholic theology at the seminary in Ternopil in 1997 , which he later continued at the seminary in Lublin . He was ordained a deacon in 2004 and received the sacrament of priestly ordination on May 8, 2005 by the auxiliary bishop in Ternopil-Sboriw , Wassyl Semenjuk .

Kulyk was then sent to Rome for further studies , where he obtained a degree in patrology from the Pontifical Patristic Institute Augustinianum in 2009 . From 2006 to 2009 he was also a pastor for the Ukrainian Greek Catholic believers living in Cattolica , Pesaro , Padua , Este , Thiene , Bassano del Grappa and Chioggia . In 2009 Iwan Kulik became parish administrator of the parish of Santi Sergio e Bacco in Rome and in 2013 finally its pastor .

The Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church elected him the first Ukrainian Greek Catholic Bishop of Kamyanets-Podilskyi. This election, Pope Francis on September 10, 2019. The Major Archbishop of Kyiv-Halych , Sviatoslav Shevchuk , donated to him on 1 December of that year in the St. Mary's birth- Cathedral in Khmelnitsky , the episcopal ordination . Co - consecrators were the Apostolic Visitator for the Ukrainian Greek Catholic faithful living in Italy and Spain , Dionisio Lachovicz OSBM , and the Archbishop of Ternopil-Sboriw, Vasyl Semenyuk.
