Jörg Dürmüller

Jörg Dürmüller (born August 28, 1959 in Bern ) is a Swiss opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Jörg Dürmüller first studied violin and singing at the Winterthur Conservatory . He continued his vocal studies with Naan Pöld and Hans Kagel at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg. He attended master classes with Christa Ludwig and Hermann Prey .

Jörg Dürmüller earned his excellent reputation in the concert field primarily with the evangelist roles of JS Bach. He sang in renowned music centers at home and abroad such as the Royal Albert Hall London ( BBC Proms ), Wiener Musikverein , Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Auditorio Nacional de España Madrid , Théâtre des Champs-Elysées Paris, Théâtre du Châtelet Paris, Philharmonic Sao Paulo, Summer Festival Tokyo, Schwetzingen Festival , Epidaurus Festival Athens or Bach Festival Leipzig . In December 2006 he took part in a US tour under Ton Koopman and sang at Carnegie Hall in New York. In 2008 Jörg Dürmüller performed with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in various concerts with Handel's Messiah .

He began his operatic career in Bielefeld . He then sang for two years at the Braunschweig State Theater under the direction of Brigitte Fassbaender . He made regular guest appearances at the Komische Oper Berlin , where he could be heard in roles such as Ferrando in Così fan tutte or Bajazete in Handel's Tamerlano (director: David Alden). He was a member of the ensemble of the Vienna Volksoper , where he sang Tamino, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni and Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola . In addition to his concert engagements, he has made guest appearances at the opera houses of Hamburg, Montpellier, Leipzig, Cologne, Strasbourg, Seville and at the Teatro Real in Madrid. In 2006 he took over the role of Belmonte under Alessandro De Marchi at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival at short notice , which led to further collaboration in various projects in 2007. Also in 2007 he sang Don Ottavio (BR TV recording) under Enoch zu Guttenberg at the Herrenchiemsee Festival , in 2008 he was guest at the Teatro Regio di Torino as Narraboth and made his scenic debut at the Braunschweig Theater as Erik in the Flying Dutchman .

As an opera and concert singer, he has worked with conductors such as Herbert Blomstedt , Bertrand de Billy , Dennis Russell Davies , Christoph Eschenbach , Diego Fasolis , Reinhard Goebel , Enoch zu Guttenberg , Thomas Hengelbrock , Christopher Hogwood , Michael Hofstetter , René Jacobs , Robert King , Ton Koopman , Václav Neumann , Christof Prick , Helmuth Rilling , Peter Schreier , Sebastian Weigle , Bruno Weil , Simone Young and Hans Zender together.

As a singer, Dürmüller has a wide range of subjects and has recorded numerous radio, TV, DVD and CD productions. For example, under Bruno Weil he took part in a first recording of the Fliegende Holländers in the original Wagner version from 1841, in which he sang the role of Georg (Erik). In March 2005 Dürmüller sang the Evangelist from the St. Matthew Passion by JS Bach on DVD and CD under the direction of Ton Koopman . In 2007 the CD recording of the Krenek opera Sardakai with Dürmüller in the male leading role of Carlo was awarded the ECHO Klassik . The CD production Die Schöne Galathée (Suppé) under Bruno Weil with Dürmüller in the leading role of Pygmalion received the German Record Critics' Prize .
