Career

Jörg Plickat, "Dithmarscher Stele", 1995 in Itzehoe

He studied sculpture at the Muthesius Kunsthochschule in Kiel and obtained his diploma in 1980. Plickat works as a freelancer. His works have been shown at international exhibitions and he has received prizes and grants. He created over 90 permanently installed sculptures in public spaces. Plickat originally comes from the character. This becomes clear in his early works and in some more recent works in the listed area, where figurative work was explicitly required (see illustration). From around 1990 onwards, however, Plickat turned to his typical, cubic, reduced style of form, which is understood internationally. Plickat works in bronze , natural stone and Corten steel. Plickat's work focuses on contemporary sculpture, often in dialogue with significant historical buildings . With the involvement of monument preservation , his works are placed in a complementary dialogue with historically important buildings or fragments. In these works, Plickat is concerned with innovative approaches to dealing with listed cultural assets . The work is preceded by the best possible safeguarding and preservation of the historical building mass by restorers, so that these are also available to future generations for scientific research . Plickat contrasts the historical substance with contemporary sculpture or a sculptural complement, conceived and designed in such a way that experts and experienced laypeople immediately recognize it as a new creation, but at the same time there is a specific reference to the historical cultural asset and, through the addition, a special stimulus for reception and the Reflection is given. On December 1, 2013, the Plickat sculpture park "Koppel der Künste" was opened in Plickat's home community of Bredenbek (Rendsburg-Eckernförde district). Nine large sculptures by Plickat will be presented.

In 2015 the Brooksbrücke was listed together with the Speicherstadt as a UNESCO World Heritage Site .
