J. Allen Suddeth

James Allen Suddeth (born August 3, 1952 ) is an American stuntman , combat choreographer and stage combat instructor .

Life

J. Allen Suddeth came from the US state of Georgia . His father James "Jim" Allen Suddeth (1921–2009) was in the US Army from 1943 to 1966 , which is why the family had to move frequently. His mother was Anne Suddeth, née Dodson (1923-2013). J. Allen Suddeth's sister Annelle Elgin, born in 1945, married Reid, died in 2005.

J. Allen Suddeth gained his first stage experience in the theater groups of the high schools he attended. From 1970 to 1974 he completed a bachelor's degree in theater acting at Ohio University , where he first had an insight into a stage combat class.

After graduating, he went to New York City to work as an actor. Suddeth had two minor film roles as an actor in 1987. He played the motel owner in Gianni Bozzacchis stripes I Love NY and Detective Sealy in Daniel Taplitz ' CBS School Break Special -TV series Episode Soldier Boys . In Roger Donaldson's comedy Cadillac Man , he himself did film stunts, as well as in Mark Nickelsburg's short film Now, That's Cute in 2013 .

Since the age of 30 he has primarily worked as a fight director in theater and musical productions . From 1990 to 2009 he worked at the Center Stage in Baltimore , Maryland , where he was the fight choreographer responsible for stage fight scenes in more than 70 stage plays. From 2004 to 2005 he was also a fight choreographer at the Crossroads Theater in New Brunswick , New Jersey . Since February 2012 he has been a fight choreographer for the Disney Theatrical Group (DTG) of the Walt Disney Company , for which he choreographed the stage fight scenes for the Broadway musicals Newsies and Aladdin . In September 2012 he was also engaged at the La Mirada Theater for the Performing Arts in La Mirada , California, for the Jekyll & Hyde music tour. He currently also works for the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick. He has worked on over 750 productions for ABC , CBS , NBC and HBO .

Suddeth taught stage combat at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, at the State University of New York at Purchase , at the Juilliard School , at the Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting and at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in New York from 1985 onwards City. In total, he trained more than 10,000 students.

He has been a member of the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD), which was founded in 1977 and was President from 1990 to 1993, since 1980 . He is a lifetime member of the British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat (BASSC). The Fight Directors Canada (FDC) named him an "Honorable Fight Master".
