Jamal Wilson (born September 1, 1988 in Nassau ) is a Bahamian high jumper .

Athletic career

Jamal Wilson gained his first international experience at the CARIFTA Games 2005 in Bacolet , where he won the gold medal with 2.08 m. He then took part in the Youth World Championships in Marrakech and was eliminated there with 1.95 m in qualification. He then finished twelfth at the Pan American Junior Championships in Windsor with 1.95 m. In 2006 he won again the gold medal at the CARIFTA Games in Les Abymes and silver at the Central America and Caribbean Junior Championships in Port of Spain with 2.11 m. At the Junior World Championships in Beijing he was later eliminated with 2.10 m in qualification. In 2007 he jumped 2.20 m at the CARIFTA Games in Providenciales , winning the gold medal for the third time in a row. He then won gold at the Pan American Junior Championships in São Paulo with 2.11 m. In 2008 he won the bronze medal at the Central America and Caribbean Championships (CAC) in Cali with 2.13 m, as well as at the U23 NACAC Championships in Toluca de Lerdo with 2.23 m.

Two years later he won the bronze medal again with 2.13 m at the U23 NACAC championships in Miramar . In 2011 he finished sixth at the CAC championships in Mayagüez with 15.32 m in the triple jump. In 2013 he won the silver medal in the high jump at the CAC Championships in Morelia with 2.22 m. In 2014 he took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow for the first time and was eliminated there with 2.11 m in qualification. He then won the silver medal at the Pan-American Sports Festival in Mexico City with 2.26 m and finished fifth at the CAC games in Xalapa with 2.18 m. In 2016 he qualified for the World Indoor Championships in Portland , where he was eliminated with 2.20 m in the qualification. During the outdoor season he also qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he also did not reach the final with 2.22 m .

In 2018 he took part in the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , where he finished ninth with 2.20 m. In April he took part again in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast and won the silver medal behind the Australian Brandon Starc with 2.30 m .

In 2017, Wilson became the Bahamian high jump champion.
