James Wolfensohn (2003)

James David "Jim" Wolfensohn (born December 1, 1933 in Sydney , Australia , † November 25, 2020 in New York City ) was an Australian-American economist and from 1995 to 2005 the ninth President of the World Bank .

Life

Born in Australia and later naturalized, the American of German-Jewish descent was a lawyer and banker and from 1963 worked in the international stock exchange and banking business. He holds degrees from Sydney and Harvard University . At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 he was a member of the Australian fencing team .

On June 1, 1995, he became President of the World Bank. His second term began on September 27, 1999, when he was unanimously reappointed by the World Bank's Executive Board. This made him the third president to serve a second term at the World Bank. He was succeeded on June 1, 2005 by Paul Wolfowitz .

From June 11th to 14th, 2015 he took part in the 63rd Bilderberg Conference in Telfs-Buchen , Austria .
