Jamie Babbit (born November 16, 1970 in Shaker Heights , Ohio ) is an American film director , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

Babbit grew up in Cleveland , Ohio. Her father was a lawyer and law professor, and her mother ran a New Directions socialization program for teenagers with drug and alcohol problems. After finishing school, Babbit studied West African Studies at Barnard College , which she finished in 1993. Then Babbit moved to New York University . After graduating, Babbit worked as a production assistant for Martin Scorsese on the film Time of Innocence , then for John Sayles on the film The Secret of Roan Inish and for David Fincher on The Game .

In 1996, Babbit made her first short film, Frog Crossing, about animal rights activists protecting frogs on highways. Her short film Sleeping Beauties and her first full-length feature film Because I'm a Girl followed in 1999 . In the following years she directed and produced the films Itty Bitty Titty Committee and The Quiet - Can you keep a secret? and episodes of various television series, e.g. B.
