Jan Trøjborg

Jan Trøjborg (born December 14, 1955 in Horsens ; † May 6, 2012 in Aarhus ) was a Danish politician ( Socialdemokraterne ) who successively headed six different ministries in Denmark from 1993 to 2001 .

Life

Trøjborg finished training as a bricklayer in 1976 and graduated in 1986 as a civil and environmental engineer.

His political career began in Vejle Amt as chairman of the Danish social democratic youth organization from 1973 to 1978. He was then represented on the city council of Horsens until 1986 and from 1987 to 2005 a member of the Folketing , the Danish parliament. In various governments he took on responsibility as Minister of Industry (1993–94), Minister of Transport (1994–96), Minister of Economy and Industry (1996–98), Minister of Research (1998–99), Minister of Development Aid (1999–2000) ) and as Minister of Defense (2000–2001). In 2005 he gave up his seat in the Folketing and returned to his hometown Horsens, where he worked until his death as mayor of the Horsens municipality and from 2010 as chairman of the Kommunernes Landsforening , an interest group of Danish municipalities .

Trøjborg collapsed on May 6, 2012 during a training ride that took place as part of the Giro d'Italia 2012 cycling race in Horsens together with other members of the city council. He died on the same day at Aarhus-Skejby University Hospital at the age of 56.
