The 1988/89 season was the 23rd season of the Japan Ice Hockey League , the highest Japanese ice hockey division . The Kokudo Ice Hockey Club became champions for the fourth time in the club's history . Top scorer with 39 points each was Hikomi Senuma from Master Kokudo and Norio Suzuki from the Ōji Eagles .

In the regular season, each of the six teams played a total of 30 games. The first place after the regular season became champion. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a tie and zero points for a defeat.
