The 1997/98 season was the 32nd season of the Japan Ice Hockey League , the highest Japanese ice hockey division . The Kokudo Ice Hockey Club became champions for the eighth time in the club's history . Kelly Glowa from Seibu Prince Rabbits and John Tucker from Meister Kokudo Ice Hockey Club were top scorers with 74 points each .

In the regular season, each of the six teams played a total of 40 games. The four best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played out. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a tie and zero points for a defeat.
