Jayne Meadows
Jayne Meadows (born September 27, 1919 in Wuchang , China ; as Jayne Cotter ; † April 26, 2015 in Encino , California ) was an American actress .
Meadows was born in Wuchang, China in 1919, where her parents served as missionaries for the Episcopal Church of the United States of America . In 1927 the family returned to the United States and settled in Sharon , Connecticut . After finishing school, she moved to New York City and made her debut on Broadway in 1941 , where she performed with Mary Astor and Richard Widmark among others over the next few years . In 1946 she made her film debut at the side of Katharine Hepburn in The Unknown Beloved . A year later she was seen in The Lady in the Lake and as a partner to William Powell and Myrna Loy in The Song of the Thin Man .
From the beginning of the 1950s, the actress mainly appeared in television productions such as Murder is Her Hobby , Hotel , Love Boat or The Nanny . She received three Emmy Award nominations for her roles on US television . Aside from her acting roles, however, she achieved greater fame in the 1950s, above all as one of the members of the advice team in the advice program I've Got a Secret , in which the secrets of the people appearing in the program had to be guessed. She also appeared in other advice programs on US television in the following decades.
Jayne Meadows was married to actor Steve Allen from 1954 until his death in 2000 . From this marriage a son was born. Her sister was the actress Audrey Meadows . Meadows last lived in seclusion in Encino , California, where she died in April 2015 at the age of 95.
