Jean Babou
Jean Babou ( 1511 - November 11, 1569 ) was a French military man, Grand Bailli de Touraine and Grand Master of the Artillery of France (1567).
Life
Jean Babou is the son of Philibert Babou , born around 1484 and died in September 1557 at the age of around 73, Seigneur de La Bourdaisière , Mayor of Tours (1521), and Marie Gaudin , born around 1495 and died in 1480, Dame de La Bourdaisière and from 1532 to 1542 Queen Eleanor of Castile's maid of honor (1498–1558)
He was Seigneur de La Bourdaisière, Comte de Sagonne , Seigneur de Thuisseau, de Chissé, de Vouillon , de Pruniers , de Germigny et de Brain-sur-l'Authion . From 1528 he was cupbearer of King Francis I and Margaret of Navarre . The following year he was appointed governor and Bailli von Gien , then Maître de la Garde-Robe des Dauphin, the future Henry II. He was Grand Bailli de Touraine when this office was established, which he held until his death. He was also Maître d'Hôtel Franz 'I and Gentilhomme ordinaire de la chambre Henry II.
He expanded his property through acquisitions. In 1542 he acquired the barony of Sagonne from Antoinette d'Amboise, Dame de Rochefoucauld Barbezieux, and in 1551 acquired the lordship of Jouy from Marc de Beaufort, Count of Alluye. In 1564 he bought Brain-sur-l'Authion in Anjou from Victor Bourgouin, the treasurer.
On November 26, 1559 he was entrusted by King Francis II with the management of an extraordinary embassy to Rome to Pope Pius IV . After the king's death (1560), he withdrew from the court. He was called back by Catherine de Medici , who entrusted him with the care of the Duke of Alençon and gave him as deputy the command of the orderly company of the prince. In 1562 he was appointed captain of the city and castle of Amboise . In 1566 he was accepted into the Ordre de Saint-Michel .
In 1567 he was appointed Governor of Brest , Maître Général de l'artillerie en France and on May 15, 1568 appointed to the Council of State.
He took part in the Third Huguenot War in the Battle of Moncontour on October 3, 1569 , and made victory possible with a skilful maneuver of his artillery. He died on November 11, 1569.
Marriage and offspring
Jean Babou married on January 5, 1540 in Blois Françoise Robertet , Dame d ' Alluye in the province of Perche-Gouët , born in 1519, daughter of Florimond I. Robertet . She was the lady of honor of the queens Catherine de Medici (1547-1575), Maria Stuart (1560) and Louise de Lorraine-Vaudémont with an income of 400 livre tournois. She died in 1580. Her 15 children are:
