1. ↑ Jean Favier writes in the Dictionnaire de la France médiévale under the heading Nevers: “Nevers is married to Pierre de Courtenay († 1219) in 1181, then to Hervé de Donzy († 1223) [husband of Mathilde I], Guy de Châtillon († 1226) [husband of Agnes II.], Archambaud de Bourbon († 1249) [husband of Jolante] and the eldest son of Duke Hugo IV. Of Burgundy, Odo of Burgundy († 1266) [husband of Mathilde II.] ... "; It should be noted that Schwennicke, European family tables, in Hervé de Donzy, Guy de Châtillon and Archambault de Bourbon do not mention the title of count of Nevers, Auxerre or Tonnerre, but that Hervé de Donzy was given by Pierre de Courtenay's daughter on December 20, 1213 divorced, and that Agnes de Donzy was Countess of Nevers. It can be assumed that Mathilde I was Countess von Nevers etc. throughout her life, i.e. until 1257, and that her immediate successor was her great-granddaughter Mathilde II, whose accession to power is in fact recorded for 1257, a year which only fits the death of her great-grandmother. The other persons in this connection would then be seen as hereditary countesses for women, and for men as those who actually administered the property.
