Forest in the nature reserve "Jeditz Wood"

The Eachitzer Holz is a nature reserve in the town of Havelberg in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0005 is around 322  hectares . To a large extent, it is also designated as the FFH area “Jeditz Holz east of Havelberg”. A small part is part of the FFH area "Untere Havel and Schollener See". The areas of the nature reserve designated as FFH areas are also designated as EU bird protection areas "Lower Havel / Saxony-Anhalt and Schollener See". The nature reserve is the conservation area surrounded "Lower Havel". The area has been under protection since May 1, 1961. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Stendal.

The nature reserve is located east of Sandau (Elbe) and southeast of Havelberg in the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve . It places a rest of alluvial forest , which is influenced by the smoke water from the Elbe and Havel , under protection with grassland areas . The forest communities are dominated by oak-elm- hardwood floodplain forest with pedunculate oak , hornbeam , field elm and field maple . In more humid locations you can also find broken forest communities with common ash and black alder . Common bird cherry , blood-red dogwood and common hawthorn in particular grow in the shrub layer . a. formed by forest scissors , golden nettles and single berries .

In the edge areas of the nature reserve, there are wet meadows with large sedge beds and reed beds .

The forest area is home to one of the oldest gray heron colonies in Saxony-Anhalt. Also red and black kite , honey buzzard and middle spotted woodpecker nest here. The nature reserve is also a habitat for Elbe beavers and otters, as well as various amphibians and reptiles , including the fire-bellied toad , crested newt and pond newt and forest lizard .

The forest area is traversed by numerous watercourses that drain to the Havel via various streams , including the Trübengraben, which flows through the forest area. The nature reserve is completely surrounded by agricultural land .
