The Bucher Brack-Bölsdorfer Haken is a nature reserve in the towns of Jerichow in the Jerichower Land district and Tangermünde in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0043 is around 1008  hectares . It is part of the FFH area "Elbaue between Derben and Schönhausen" and the EU bird sanctuary "Elbaue Jerichow" and is largely surrounded by the landscape protection areas "Elbtalaue" in the district of Jerichower Land and "Tanger-Elbeniederung" in the district of Stendal. The area has been under protection since 1978 (date of regulation: July 5, 1978). Responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the districts of Jerichower Land and Stendal.

The nature reserve is located west of Jerichow and south of Tangermünde in the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve . It protects extensive grassland areas on both sides of the Elbe as well as two oxbow lakes , the Bölsdorfer Haken in the Stendal district on the left side of the Elbe and the Old Elbe in the Jerichower Land district on the right side of the Elbe. The area of ​​the nature reserve is not diked and is therefore subject to the natural flow dynamics.

The landscape in the nature reserve was created through former extensive use. Today it presents itself as a mosaic of wet grassland , old and temporary bodies of water, damp depressions and flood channels. However, the typical plant communities of the floodplain meadows are impoverished by intensive use of grassland. Thanks to large-scale sowing, the meadow foxtail is one of the most common grasses today. Silgen grass curls are also widespread. In addition, are also meadowsweet - Buttercup meadows and bend Foxtail societies as well as very rare irises - Elecampane find -Wiesensaumgesellschaften.

The banks of the oxbow lakes are lined with reed beds and reed areas with plumes of water , cane grass , reeds and slender sails. Sometimes there are also reed communities with pond horsetail , arrowhead , hedgehog cob and pond rushes . Mud surfaces that fall dry in the summer are occupied by poison buttercups . The open water areas are of floating leaves companies with milfoil - water lilies taken societies. The course of the river Elbe is accompanied by Elbespitzkletten bank corridors, Danube knotweed corridors and black mustard borders. In places Auengebüsche are with Eingriffeligem hawthorn , dog rose , Purgierkreuzdorn , English oak and elm to find. On a lying within the nature reserve Dünenzug sand are small areas lean turf companies with Spring Spark - silver grass - and Heath cloves - Thrift corridors to find.

The nature reserve is the habitat of a species-rich fauna . Numerous birds are native here, including various types of duck and rail , greylag goose , shelduck , curlew , common snipe , lapwing , corncrake , oystercatcher , reed warbler , wagtail , whinchat and bearded tit . The black tern has an important breeding population in the nature reserve. White- tailed eagles , marsh harriers and marsh harriers also breed in the nature reserve. Cranes , white and black storks and ospreys use the nature reserve as a feeding area.

The water areas are the habitat and spawning area of various amphibians , including grass , marsh and pond frog , earth , Phillips and Toad , fire-bellied toad and pond and great crested newt . Furthermore, different types of dragonflies , including the southern mosaic damsel and Asian wedge damsel , different bat species as well as Elbe beaver and otters are native here.

During the bird migration , the nature reserve is a resting area for numerous ducks , geese , sawyers , swans , limikoles and cranes . In particular, bean goose and white-fronted goose as well as whooper and pygmy swans can often be observed in large numbers.

Along the Elbe dike between Jerichow and Klietznick, there is an approximately 2.5-kilometer-long nature trail with display boards and an observation tower.

Parts of the nature reserve are used intensively for arable farming.
