Jim Reeves (singer, 1968)
Jim Major Reeves , stage names Jim Ree , Jimmy Joe and Adama (born April 30, 1968 in Cologne as Jim Nyasani ; † February 1, 2016 in Berlin ), was a German singer , songwriter and music producer who worked as a member of the groups 4 Reeves and Sqeezer became known. He has also worked as a model , actor , presenter, and artist and music manager.
Life
Jim Reeves was a son of the Kenyan philosophy professor Joseph Major Nyasani, who worked for Deutsche Welle and the UN. While working for Deutsche Welle, he met his future wife, a nurse from Tanzania . Jim Reeves was born in Cologne and grew up in the Cologne-Kalk district .
In 1984 he was discovered in a competition for the nationwide C&A advertising campaign The Last Schrei . During his career as a photo model, he was part of various advertising campaigns, for example by Sony , Swatch and Schöller Mövenpick .
In 1992 Reeves began training as a musical actor in Hamburg and was trained in singing, classical ballet, drama, tapping and fencing. During his training, he was seen in several television and cinema productions such as the crime series Die Gang (ARD) and SK Babies (RTL). Reeves sang an advertising trailer for the drugstore chain Budnikowsky and met the producer team Franz Plasa and Peter Hoffmann through his agency . Together with his siblings Shary , Andrew and Terry, he formed Group 4 Reeves in the early 1990s . The formation was one of the trailblazers for German hip-hop and soul. Although the English singles party and jumping achieved respectable successes, the group decided to continue writing and singing in German.
1995 Reeves left the formation and released solo as Jim Ree the single Feel So Real , a Eurodance cover version of the song of the same name by Steve Arrington . He then founded the band Sqeezer . With this he had several hits in the German charts as well as in other European countries. The formation received gold awards in the Czech Republic, Poland and Spain; in total it sold over five million records worldwide.
From 1995 to 1996 Reeves was a studio presenter and external reporter for the interactive youth magazine Lollo Rosso on WDR . In 1997 he promoted ORWO brand camera films .
In 2001 he continued his solo music career with a guest contribution on the single Küss mich again by the Big Brother candidate Verena Malta .
Under the stage name Adama Reeves released the EP Don't Stop the Music in 2006 . The professional boxer Markus Beyer and the drag queen Tatjana Taft take part in the accompanying music video . As a successor, the title House of Love was published by Adama. In February 2008, Reeves was featured on ProSieben in the tabloid magazine taff in the category The perfect celebrity party , where he won the party contest and was chosen as the winner by his colleagues Rolf Eden , Micaela Schäfer and Agnieszka Hendel .
In 2009 Reeves changed the music genre to Schlager-Beat under the stage name Jimmy Joe. In June 2009 the single Solarium was released . He also founded "Jimmy Joe Production!", With which he ran a recording studio and worked as a producer for other bands.
Reeves was a future manager on the jury of the talent show Village Boys - The Big Lips Casting Show , which was broadcast on TIMM in July 2009 . He then worked as a manager and producer for the pop-Schlager-Boygroup Die Traumprinzen until 2013 . In 2012 he supported the pop singer Michael Wendler in his live performances and played the saxophone to the song Honey Kiss . In addition, Reeves sang in the background on Wendler's single Everything I Want .
On February 1, 2016, Reeves was found dead in a hostel in Berlin, which he had lived in after an argument with his girlfriend. Here he shared a six-bed room with two guests from Poland on the night of the crime. A 29-year-old Pole was arrested in Lleida, Spain on February 7, 2017 . His 23-year-old accomplice was caught on February 19, 2016 in Brzeżno (Poland). The Berlin public prosecutor assumes that the two men severely abused the bisexual singer for homophobic motives, so that he died of serious internal injuries. In October 2018, the Berlin district court sentenced the perpetrators to 13 and 14 years in prison for manslaughter in a particularly serious case. Reeves' family put to the judgment revision one. However, the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe rejected the appeal in January 2020.
Jim Reeves found his final resting place in the Ostfriedhof in Cologne.
