Johann Jakob Iven

Johann Jakob Iven (born June 26, 1775 at the Priorshof near Bedburg ; † July 3, 1853 in Cologne ) was Vicar General of the Archbishop of Cologne from 1841 to 1846 .

Life

The son of Peter Iven and Agnes Kemmerling was born on Gut Priorshof, studied theology and also did his doctorate there .

For on June 8, 1798 priests ordained , Iven was 1799-1804 lecturer at the Cologne Seminary and was also in 1801 canon at St. Kunibert . After he had lost his canonical in the course of the secularization , he took over the position of a pastor in Nideggen in 1804 , from where on May 1, 1805 he changed to the Bonn Minster as pastor . In 1815 he is pastor at St. Martin in Bonn .

On December 19, 1824, Iven was made dean of the Bonn dean's office in 1827 . Appointed resident canon on April 10, 1832, Iven left Bonn and went to Cologne, where he was also on May 21, 1841 by Pope Gregory XVI. had been appointed vicar general because Archbishop Clemens August Droste zu Vischering was detained by the Prussian government in Minden and prevented from taking office.

The coadjutor and later Archbishop Johannes von Geissel reappointed Iven as vicar general on March 4, 1843 and also as cathedral dean on October 1, 1843.

Iven is buried in the crypt of the Cologne cathedral chapter in the Melatenfriedhof.

Honors

The Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Würzburg made Iven an honorary doctorate in 1841 .
