Johann Nikolaus von Kalckreuth (born October 7, 1720 in East Prussia , † April 10, 1807 in Greifenberg in Pomerania ) was a Prussian officer , most recently lieutenant general and chief of the Dragoon Regiment XII .

Life

His parents were the Polish major Hans Otto von Kalckreuth (* 1686/87; † May 3, 1772) and his wife Maria Elisabeth, née von Essen (1703–1782). Johann Nikolaus came under the care of his uncle Ernst Georg von Kalckreuth early on . He was Rittmeister in the cuirassier regiment "Margrave Friedrich" No. 5 . He placed the young Johann in the regiment in 1736. In 1741 he was appointed Cornett at the end of the camp in Göttun near Brandenburg . During the First Silesian War in 1742 he rode under Eugen von Anhalt to Upper Silesia , where he was lucky enough not to be one of the regiment's many dead. In the Second Silesian War he fought in 1744 in the siege of Prague, in 1745 in Hohenfriedberg , Soor and Kesselsdorf . At the beginning of 1750 he became a lieutenant and in 1756 staff cavalry master, but already in 1757 cavalry master. In 1760 he was promoted to major and in May 1772 to lieutenant colonel . On May 21, 1775 he became a colonel and, in 1778, the commander of the "Reizenstein" XII Dragoon Regiment. In 1780 he became major general and chief of the regiment .

During the Seven Years' War he was present at all significant events. He fought in Lobositz , Prague , Breslau , the Battle of Leuthen , Zorndorf , Kay , Kunersdorf , Liegnitz and Freiberg . He was wounded in the battle of Kunersdorf and Hohenfriedberg .

In Liegnitz he was able to conquer seven cannons and a flag and received the order Pour le Mérite and 500 thalers.

On June 1, 1788 he became lieutenant general. In 1792 he was awarded the Order of the Black Eagle and in 1794 received his farewell. He died unmarried in 1807.
