Johannes Colberg
Johannes Colberg (born March 31, 1623 in Kolberg , † September 19, 1687 in Greifswald ) was a German Lutheran theologian.
Life
As the son of a merchant, he attended school in Königsberg (Prussia) . He then studied from 1638 to 1644 at the University of Greifswald and the University of Königsberg , where he obtained the academic degree of a master's degree in 1644 . He then went to the University of Frankfurt (Oder) , where he was accepted as an adjunct of the theological faculty and made the acquaintance of Johann Hülsemann . After an educational trip through Germany, where he stayed in Wittenberg , Leipzig , Helmstedt , Jena , Gotha , Erfurt and Dresden , he obtained a licentiate in theology at the University of Leipzig in 1652 and became pastor at the Petri and Paulikirche in Eisleben in 1653 and Mansfeld consistorial assessor.
In the same year, damaged by a house fire, he moved to the pastorate of the Marienkirche in his hometown. There he got involved in extensive disputes as a representative of Lutheran Orthodoxy , so that in 1675 he had to resign from his office on the instructions of Elector Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg . It turned out to be favorable that he had obtained his doctorate in theology in Leipzig in 1666 . Then he was able to accept a call to the University of Greifswald as a professor of theology in 1677 .
That position was connected with a membership in the Greifswald consistory and a pastor's position in the Marienkirche . But also in Greifswald he got into an argument with his colleague Jacob Henning and had to leave Greifswald again after the conquest of the city by the Brandenburg Elector in November 1678. He went to Rostock , where he continued his sermons, gave lectures and wrote other pamphlets. In 1686 he was able to return to his position in Greifswald, where he stayed until the end of his life.
Johannes Colberg was married to Catharina Schlieff. His son, god of honor Daniel Colberg , also became a theologian.
