John Wentworth Junior

John Wentworth junior (born July 17, 1745 in Somersworth , New Hampshire Colony , † January 10, 1787 in Dover , New Hampshire ) was an American lawyer and politician. He was the son of Judge John Wentworth.

Career

John graduated from Harvard University in 1768 and then studied law . After being admitted to the bar, he moved to Dover, New Hampshire, where he began practicing in 1771. His cousin, Governor John Wentworth , appointed him administrator of Strafford County in 1773 , a position he held until his death.

John decided to pursue a political career. He served on various revolutionary committees. On January 10, 1774 he became a member of the Committee of Correspondence . Then he served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 1776 to 1780 . He was also appointed to the Committee of Safety in June 1777 . He also held a position as a moderator (city official) from 1777 to 1786 . In 1778 and 1779 he was a delegate to the Continental Congress , where he signed the Articles of Confederation . Then he was a member of the State Council from 1780 to 1784 . He then served in the New Hampshire Senate until 1786 .

He died in Dover in 1787 and was then buried in Pine Hill Cemetery .
