Joseph Rütten
Joseph Rütten (until September 1, 1842 Jacob Beer Rindskopf ) (born December 22, 1805 in Frankfurt am Main ; † June 19, 1878 there ) was a German publisher .
Life
Jacob Beer Rindskopf was the son of the banker Jekel (Jacob) Beer Rindskopf (* 1770, † 1842) and Jette, b. Well , and was born in the Rindskopf house on Frankfurt's Judengasse . He was with his father in the trade for training and on May 12, 1842 was admitted to the "Israelite citizen oath". On April 8, 1834, he applied to be allowed to change his name, which was approved in 1842.
On July 1, 1844, he and Zacharias Loewenthal founded the literary institution (J. Rütten) , from which the Rütten & Loening publishing house was to emerge on April 26, 1859 . Heinrich Hoffmanns Struwwelpeter (1845) was the first big success of the new publishing house . In the same year he also published the first book by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels , The Holy Family . Other important works were Börne's works and the complete edition of Karl Gutzkow's works .
Rütten was a member of the Frankfurt legislative body (1858 to 1866), the "51er Kolleg", the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce , the Israelite school administration and board member of the Israelite community in Frankfurt am Main as well as the school council of the Philanthropin .
On June 21, 1878, he was buried in the Jewish cemetery at Rat-Beil-Strasse , Block IV.
