Julia Ritter (born May 13, 1998 in Lünen , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German athlete who specializes in the shot put and discus throw . She was U18 world champion and U20 European champion in the shot put.

career path

Ritter graduated from the Bergkamen municipal high school in 2016 . Since September 1, 2016, Ritter has been working as a police chief trainee with the Federal Police and was sworn in as a newcomer to the Federal Police Sports School in Kienbaum .

Athletic career

Ritter only came from handball to the shot put at the age of 13 and already led the German W14 annual best list (open air) at the end of 2012 with 13.75 m in the shot put (3 kg).

In 2013, at the end of the year, Ritter was at the top of the German U16 annual best list (open air) with 15.80 m in the shot put (3 kg) and 42.30 m in the discus throw (1 kg).

In 2014 she won the German U18 runner-up in the shot put.

2015 Ritter was German U18 champion in the discus throw and the shot put German Under-18 runner- and in Cali ( Colombia ) with personal personal best of 18.53 meters, U18 World Champion .

At the end of the year, Ritter led the German U18 annual best list (outdoors) with 18.53 m in the shot put (3 kg) and 49.86 m in the discus throw (1 kg) as well as with 17.88 m in the shot put (3 kg) and with 44.05 m in the discus throw (1 kg) on ​​the German U18 annual best list (indoor and winter throw).

In 2016 he switched to the U20 class and to the four-kilo ball, which is why Ritter moved to the sports boarding school in Bochum-Wattenscheid and joined Miroslaw Jasinski's training group. She was successful as the German U20 winter throwing champion with the discus and a 3rd place in the shot put at the German U20 winter throwing championships . This was followed by the German U20 championship title in discus throwing, a 3rd place at the German U20 championships in the shot put and a 9th place at the U20 world championships in Bydgoszcz ( Poland ).

At the end of the year, Ritter led the German U20 annual best list in the discus throw (1 kg) with 53.84 m (open air) and 49.67 m (winter throw).

2017 was her most successful year to date. In the discus throw, Ritter became German U20 winter throwing champion and in the shot put German U20 indoor champion . At the German Indoor Championships she finished 8th in the shot put. Ritter won the U20 championship title in the shot put and discus throw . At the German Junior Championships she was U23 champion in discus throwing and achieved 4th place in the shot put. With a double victory (ball and discus) in May at the Halle Throwing Days , in which Ritter had also achieved a new best in the discus throw with 55.43 meters, she confirmed the two standards she had met at the Thrower Cup in Wiesbaden for the U20 European Championships in Grosseto ( Italy ), where she then won the U20 European title in the shot put.

At the end of the year, Ritter led the German U18 annual best list (open air) with 17.24 m in the shot put (4 kg) and 55.43 m in the discus throw (1 kg) as well as with 16.06 m in the shot put (4 kg) and with 52.92 m in the discus throw (1 kg) on ​​the German U20 annual best list (indoor and winter throw).

Since the beginning of 2018, Ritter has been concentrating on the shot put with a view to the European Championships in Berlin , since the norm of 17.50 meters was not far from her personal best of 17.24 m. At the German indoor championships and the German U23 championships , she came in fourth and became German U23 champion with the discus . In the course of the year, her season best with the ball was 17.00 m, with which she reached 6th place at the German championships .

In 2019, Ritter came in 5th place in the indoor season at the German Indoor Championships with the ball and in the Winter Throwing European Cup with a discus throw of 53.80 m. At the German U23 championships she was U23 runner-up with the Diskus and took bronze with the ball. Knight also achieved bronze with the ball at the U23 European Championships , where she achieved fourth place with the discus. With a personal best of 17.63 m she came in 4th and 7th place with the discus at the German Championships .

In 2020 she started the indoor season with bronze at the German Indoor Championships , which was terminated prematurely a little later due to the Covid-19 pandemic . In the open-air season, which started late due to the pandemic, Ritter improved her personal best with the ball to 17.76 meters at the 4th Neustädter Shot Put Cup on June 13th  .

Ritter is part of the perspective squad of the German Athletics Association (DLV) .
