Julien Humbert [ʒy.ljɛ̃ œ̃.bɛʁ] (born June 23, 1984 in Metz ) is a French football player . He is used as a midfielder and currently plays for the Luxembourg first division club RFC Union Luxembourg in the BGL Ligue .

Career

Beginnings in Metz

Humbert learned to play football from the age of six at the "Association sportive des postes, télégraphes et téléphones" (ASPTT) from his native city, where he was initially trained by his father Pascal. Via the “Renaissance Sportive de Magny” club from the suburb of Magny , he subsequently joined the youth teams of the city's most successful club, FC Metz , and went through them until he reached the age limit in 2003.

As a result, Humbert played for the reserve team of FC Metz among others in the fourth-class Championnat de France Amateur ( Groupe B ). However , he did not play in the professional team of the club, which had been promoted to the first-class Ligue 1 in 2003 .

Humbert in Saarland

In the summer of 2006, Humbert moved to 1. FC Saarbrücken, who had previously been relegated from the second German Bundesliga . He made his first appearance for the Saarlanders in the reserve team trained by Alfred Kaminski when he ran up on October 15, 2006 in the Oberliga Südwest game against FSV Oggersheim . Nominally, however, he was part of the regional league team coached by Didier Philippe , for which he made his debut on November 4, 2006 against VfR Aalen as a substitute. By the end of February 2007, three more substitutions followed in the third division regional league, while the team was meanwhile in danger of relegation. That is why coach Philippen decided in March 2007 to bring Tim Schwartz and Mike Frantz from the reserve team to the regional league team and, in return, to assign Humbert and Jonathan Zydko to the reserve. As a result, Humbert came to three more missions in the Oberliga Südwest 2006/07 , before he was considered again in the regional league team from the end of April. With five appearances on the starting line-up on the last six match days, Humbert established himself as a regular player for the first time, but the team could not avert relegation at the end of the 2006/07 season . Despite this descent into fourth class, he extended his contract with the Saarlanders, with whom he agreed on a two-year contract.

For the 2007/08 league season , 1. FC Saarbrücken aimed for immediate promotion back to the regional league, which would have meant maintaining fourth division through the introduction of the third league from summer 2008. Under the newly engaged trainer Michael Krüger , Humbert established himself as a top performer, so that he played 19 missions by the winter break. Even after the winter break, during which Alfred Kaminski took over Krüger's duties as a coach, he was able to maintain his regular position and played another twelve missions for 1. FC Saarbrücken. Ultimately, however, the team only finished fifth in the final table, which meant that they remained in the major league and played fifth class for the first time in the club's history.

Via Duisburg to Thuringia

Thereupon Humbert tried to change clubs and first completed a trial training session at FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt , who had qualified for the new 3rd division, but as a result the club did not commit Humbert. Instead, Humbert moved in August 2008 shortly before the end of the transfer period to the second division club MSV Duisburg , who had previously been relegated from the Bundesliga , but where he was only intended for the reserve team. In the 2008/09 season of the fifth-rate NRW League , Humbert then completed 29 missions for Duisburg's reserve, which was initially looked after by Manfred Stefes , then later by Uwe Schubert and finally took seventh place in the final table.

In the summer of 2009, Humbert completed another trial training at the third division club Rot-Weiß Erfurt, which this time led to the Thuringian club signing the French . Humbert signed a two-year contract, which also contained a bilateral option for an additional year. By the winter break of the third division season 2009/10 , Humbert then established himself with 16 appearances as a regular for the Erfurt team coached by Rainer Hörgl , but could no longer maintain this position after the winter break. In the spring of 2010, he completed three more appearances on the starting line-up before only making seven substitutions during the rest of the season, in which coach Hörgl was first replaced by Henri Fuchs and finally by Stefan Emmerling .

Subsequently, Humbert suffered cartilage damage in his knee joint, as a result of which he did not play for Erfurt for the entire third division season 2010/11 . However, after his recovery in April and May 2011, Humbert played six games for the Thuringian reserve team playing in the Oberliga Nordost .

In Erfurt's plans for the following season 2011/12 , Humbert was no longer taken into account, so that he completed trial training with the regional league clubs Kieler SV Holstein and Wuppertaler SV Borussia . However, doubts about his fitness level made the intended move to Wuppertal fail, so that Humbert, who had meanwhile withdrawn his contract option, stayed in Erfurt for another year. Under coach Emmerling he played no role as announced, so that he was only substituted three times in the final minutes in the third division at the end of the first half of the season and otherwise completed another 15 games for Erfurt's reserve team in the major league.

Humbert at Hansa Rostock

At the beginning of May 2012, Humbert presented himself in trial training under Wolfgang Wolf at FC Hansa Rostock , who had been relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga to the 3rd division a few days earlier. In June 2012, Hansa announced Humbert's commitment, initially limited to one year, so that in the 2012/13 season he initially came under Wolf, then under his successor Marc Fascher, in a total of 29 missions, in which he was with Rostock against the threatening one Relegation to the fourth division played. Since he had only made 16 of these missions by substitution, so he had not been able to prevail as a regular player, Humbert received no offer from Hansa to extend his contract.

Humbert's return to Saarland

Humbert signed a contract with 1. FC Saarbrücken in November 2013. In the summer of 2014, he left the club and was without a club for six months before joining the French amateur club APM Metz during the winter break until the end of the season.

Move to Luxembourg

From 2015 to 2017, Humbert was under contract with the Luxembourg top club F91 Dudelange . Was he still a regular player in the first season and was able to celebrate the championship and the cup win, he was no longer used in the second season. He then switched to league competitor RFC Union Luxembourg in the summer of 2017 , where he was allowed to play for his new club for the first time after the winter break due to quarrels with his ex-club Dudelange and the resulting lack of playing authorization. At the end of the season he surprisingly won the Coupe de Luxembourg with a 4: 3 nE in the final against US Hostert .
