Juliet Chekwel (born May 25, 1990 in Kapchorwa ) is a Ugandan long-distance runner .

Athletic career

Juliet Chekwel gained her first international experience at the Commonwealth Youth Games 2008 in Pune , where she finished fourth in the 1,500 meter run in 4: 24.60 minutes . Two years later she retired from the African Championships in Nairobi with 4: 25.50 min in the first round. At the World Cross Country Championships 2011 in Punta Umbría she was 22nd in 26:37 min and ninth two years later at the World Cross Country Championships 2013 in Bydgoszcz in 24:58 min. This year she also qualified in the 10,000 meter run for the World Championships in Moscow , where she finished 16th in 32: 57.02 minutes. At the 2015 World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang , she was 14th and at the World Championships in Beijing , she was 17 in 32: 20.95 min . The following year she took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she retired in the 5000 meter run with 15: 29.07 minutes in advance , while she did not reach the finish line over 10,000 meters .

In 2018 she took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time and came fourth there in 15: 30.17 minutes. In addition, she finished seventh in the 10,000 meter competition in 31: 57.97 minutes. In October she won the Cardiff Half Marathon with a new record. The following year she was 13th at the World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus after 37:35 min and secured the bronze medal with the team. She then won the half marathon in Padua and finished 20th at the World Championships in Doha in 33: 28.18 minutes .

In 2008 Chekwel became Ugandan champion in the 1500 meter run.
