Juszkowo ( German Gischkau ) is a village in the powiat Gdański of the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . It is a Schulzenamt and has been the seat of the Pruszcz Gdański rural community since 2018 . Until 2017, the seat of the municipality was located in the eponymous district town of Pruszcz Gdański ( German Praust ), which does not belong to the rural municipality.

Juszkowo is located in the south of the city of Gdansk, which is three to four kilometers away. It borders in the east on the district town Pruszcz Gdański, the other neighboring towns belong to the rural municipality. There are Rusocin (Russoschin) in the southeast, Będzieszyn (Bangschin) in the south, Borzęcin (Borrenschin) in the southwest, Arciszewo (Artschau) in the west, Straszyn ( Strashin) in the northwest and Rotmanka (Rottmannsdorf) in the north.

Juszkowo lies on the border between "Danziger Höhe" and the lowlands of the Vistula-Nogat delta . A reservoir was created here on the Radunia (Radaune) .

The Gmina wiejska Pruszcz Gdański is a rural community with 30 school offices and other small towns. With an area of ​​142.6 km² it includes the municipality of Pruszcz Gdański in the east, south and west. The rural community has 30,782 inhabitants (June 30, 2019).

history

Local history

The first settlements in the area can be traced back to the seventh century BC. At that time, amber was processed. The place was first mentioned as Uscov in 1220. The name of the village changed in the following centuries: Juskaw, Juschkau, Iuskow, Jußkouw, Juszki, Jaśki, Gischkaw and Gischkau. In 1454 the village came to Danziger and was leased to the city ​​patriciate . The place had its own coat of arms from 1925 to 1945. The Borrenschin Manor District (Borzęcin) came to the local parish in 1929.

On January 1, 2018, the seat of the rural community was officially moved to Juszkowo. On April 3, 2019, Agata Żemetro took over the office of mayor (sołtys) for four years from Robert Gralak. The other council of the Schulzenamt has consisted of four women since 2015.

Administrative history

The area of ​​the municipality belonged to the German province of West Prussia from the first partition of Poland until 1919 . After the First World War it became part of the Free City of Danzig under the Treaty of Versailles . In the neighboring town of Russoschin there was an external labor camp of the Stutthof concentration camp .

After the Second World War , the entire region became part of Poland. The rural community with a different layout was dissolved in 1954 and Juszkowo came to Gromada Straszyn, which in 1958 was added to Gromada Pruszcz Gdański. The rural community of Pruszcz Gdański was re-established in 1973. Juszkowo and the municipality came in 1999 to the re-established Powiat Gdański and the new Pomeranian Voivodeship. From 1945 to 1998 the municipality belonged to the reduced Gdańsk Voivodeship , or to its predecessor .

Church history

Gischkau had a Protestant church. Catholics were parish in St. Albrecht ( Polish: Św. Wojciech ) near Ohra until Praust was given its own church in 1923.

Juszkowo hydropower plant

In Juszkowo there are no monuments on the voivodeship's list of monuments.

The hydropower plant was built in 1937 and has been in operation since then without major changes. However, it was converted to automatic operation. In place of the earlier watermill , the Radaune was dammed up to form an 18.5 hectare lake using a 120 meter long earth dam . The Kaplan turbine from Escher Wyss has an output of 240 kilowatts . The generator comes from Siemens-Schuckert , the gear from the Schichau works .

Juszkowo has a convenient location next to the A1 motorway ( European route E75 ) of Pruszcz Gdański over Toruń (Thorn) of Lodz and the S6 motorway ( European route E28 ) from Pruszcz Gdański to Szczecin .

The nearest international airport is Gdansk , around 15 kilometers away.

A train station existed on the railway line from Pruszcz Gdański via Kartuzy (Karthaus) to Łeba (Leba) . The line was closed in 1994 for passenger traffic and in 2002 for freight traffic.
