Cabinet Mifsud II
The Maltese Cabinet Mifsud II was formed on June 21, 1932 by Prime Minister Ugo Pasquale Mifsud of the Partit Nazzjonalista (PN). It replaced the Strickland cabinet and was in office until November 2, 1933.
history
From the elections for the House of Representatives on June 11 and 13, 1932, the Partit Nazzjonalista (PN) of former Prime Minister Ugo Pasquale Mifsud emerged as the strongest force. With 28,777 votes (59.6 percent) she won 21 of the 32 parliamentary seats, eight more than in the last election on August 7 and 9, 1927. The Constitutional Party (CON) of the previous Prime Minister Gerald Strickland only achieved 15,023 votes (31.1 percent) and lost five of their 15 seats, so that they were now only represented by 10 members in parliament. The Partit Laburista (PL) also won only 4,138 votes this time (8.6 percent) and lost two of its three seats, so that it was only represented in the House of Representatives by Paul Boffa . In the 1932 elections, the pro-Italian group around Mifsud won, who then formed his second cabinet on June 21, 1932.
However, when the latter tried to assert their interests, unrest broke out again, with the result that the constitution was repealed from 1933 to 1936 and Malta had to return to the colonial status of complete political immaturity in 1934 . The colonial rulers made English and Maltese the official languages and abolished Italian. The term of office of the second Mifsud cabinet therefore ended on November 2, 1933.
