Kai Sitter (born September 23, 1987 in Munich ) is a German director .

Life

Sitter studied film studies , theater studies and art history at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich as well as media education and communication studies at the University of Passau . In 2016 he attended Werner Herzog's Rogue Film School .

In 2003 his first short film heart trouble won the promotion award of Bavaria Filmstadt as part of the Munich youth film festival flimmern und rauschen .

In February 2009, Sitters short film SunnyRose received the jury's award at the Munich youth film festival flimmern & rauschen and was nominated for the German Young Talent Award in Hanover. In summer 2009 he took part in an exchange program with German and Israeli-Arab students in Israel . The documentary Marhaba, Shalom was made as part of a tour of Israel .

In April 2010, Sitter traveled through Turkey. The documentary Her sey acik - Everything is open about youth culture in Turkey was created in cooperation with the director Michael Hehl . In the same year the film production company Filmwork-Studio for image , advertising , trade fair and event films was founded. In addition, an image film was made for Kindness For Kids , a foundation for children with rare diseases.

In 2011, Sitter worked on the Clash project as a director, screenwriter, cameraman and producer . In 2012 this film again received the jury prize at the Munich youth film festival flimmern & rauschen and in 2012 at the Jufinale in Kulmbach it received the Bavarian Youth Film Prize - Prize of the Bavarian Prime Minister for the best screenplay. The film also received attention in Turkish media in 2012. In March 2012 the Turkish satellite channel Kanal D mentioned this short film with praise.

Sitter works closely with the German-Turkish film producer and actor Seren Sahin . On April 11, 2012, Sitter and Sahin were portrayed in the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

In September 2012 he made the film Üç, shot in Munich and Istanbul . In February 2012 Clash was nominated for "Best Short Film" at the Berlin Independent Film Festival . In April 2013, there were of Turkish newspapers and Kanal D appreciative reviews about Üç . Furthermore, this film was nominated in September 2013 for the Day of Talents in Berlin, on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research , and for the German Young Talent Award 2013 at the up-and-coming film festival in November 2013 in Hanover. Üç was shown in the Short Film Corner in 2013 as part of the 66th Cannes Film Festival .

In August 2013, Sitter made a film called In der Galerie with actors such as Ilona Grandke , Nadia Hilker , Seren Sahin, Barbara Dussler, Felix Strobel, Anno Koehler and Herbert Forthuber. Sitter developed the script with the author Wolf-Peter Arand. The film premiered in Berlin in May 2014 in the Moviemento and Kino Babylon cinemas . It received positive feedback in Turkish cinema magazines and newspapers.

The short film Still Leben was made in Bavaria in February 2014. It shows the last steps in the life of a man who sees the world and his existence on the edge. He embarks on an intense journey that he knows there is no going back. He meets a man who helps him to fulfill his last wish. The actors Stefan Murr , Martin Walch and Seren Sahin played. The film celebrated its festival premiere in March 2015 at the International Youth Short Film Festival Italy , the Cluj Shorts International Short Film Festival Romania and the NW Short Film Festival Canada . In April 2015 it screened at the 5th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival and in May 2015 at the Maryland International Film Festival . In the same month he received a "Remi Award" in gold at the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival .

In February 2015, Sitter shot another short film project called Kein Kinderspiel .

In 2017, Sitter shot a medium-length feature film Stranded , including a. together with the cameraman Martin Noweck . The script was written by the author Veronika Schwarzmaier. Mathias Rehfeldt composed the film music . In addition to directing, Kai Sitter also worked on this project as a film editor and co-producer. In cooperation with the production company cocktailfilms , this film, in which refugees participated and helped, was made by producer Cagdas-Eren Yüksel . The film is about "new arrivals" in Germany - how refugees feel in Germany, how they are received and how they deal with it. The main actors were Lelas Al-Syed Solaeman, Regina Speiseder and Seren Sahin.

In 2020 Sitter finished his medium-length film Gefangen , which he a. a. shot together with cameraman Tom Bergsteiner ( BVK ). The film is about a young student who feels alone - in Passau , Lower Bavaria , the “Wild West” of Bavaria. After a night full of surprises, nature lets off steam in his student room. There was only one concept from Sitter for this film project, because all dialogues with the actors were developed together on the set and many scenes were only properly worked out and rehearsed shortly before and during the shoot. The film music was composed by Sami Hammi . In addition to being a director, Sitter - together with Seren Sahin - was also involved as a film editor and co-producer. The producer of the film is Seren Sahin . The main actors are Johanna Kohlmünzer and Johannes Weikl . Also have u. a. Markus Baumeister and David Hang participated. Gefangen will celebrate its premiere in March 2020 at the Regensburg Short Film Week .
