Kalkgruben ( Hungarian : Mészverem , Croatian : Koljingrob ) is a cadastral municipality of the market town of Weppersdorf in the Burgenland district of Oberpullendorf in Austria . The place was an independent municipality until 1971.
history
Limestone pits were probably first settled around 1220. In the deed of donation from the Hungarian King Andreas II to Count Pousa (son of Botus), another “Count Peter's village” ( alia villa comitis Petri ) was mentioned. In the area of this desert, lime pits were only established as a settlement centuries later.

In 1971, the previously independent communities Kalkgruben, Tschurndorf and Weppersdorf were merged to form the large community of Weppersdorf.
In 1977 the Peace Church was opened; a modern building with a free-standing bell tower. The ecumenical peace church is used by Protestant and Catholic parishioners.
In 1996 the Kalkgruben Volunteer Fire Department received a new fire station .
