Karesi is a district of the Turkish province of Balıkesir and at the same time a municipality of the Büyükşehir belediyesi (big city municipality) Balıkesir . After the provincial capital was declared Büyükşehir belediyesi in 2012, the former central district was divided into two new İlçe, of which the southern Altıeylül is and the northern Karesi.
The district is bordered by Altıeylül to the south, Balya to the west, Manyas to the north and Susurluk to the east . In the south, the northern half of the capital belongs to the district, roughly as far as the D-230 highway that crosses the city. From the city to the northeast, the D-565 trunk road runs to Bandırma on the Marmara Sea . The river Ortaca Deresi rises northeast of the capital and flows east past the urban area to the south and flows into the Nergis Çayı .
The name refers to the medieval Turkish Beylik Karesi . According to the logo, the Belediye (municipality) was founded in 2014.
