Karl August Wilhelm von Rex (born July 20, 1774 in Predel , † March 4, 1834 in Paderborn ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Karl came from the noble family of Rex . He was the son of Friedrich August von Rex (1745-1812) and his wife Christiane Sophie Wilhelmine, born von Schlegel (1745-1796) from the Mittelhausen family, widowed von Möllendorff. His father was the Saxon march commissioner of Leipzig and major of the cavalry as well as the master of Audigast , Gentha and Kömmlitz.

Military career

From 1788 Rex was a cadet in Dresden and in 1791 was transferred as a Junker to the infantry regiment "von Low" of the Saxon Army . There he became an ensign on September 20, 1792 and Sousleutnant on October 19, 1796 . In the same year Rex took part with his regiment in the campaign against France . As a prime lieutenant he fought against Austria in 1809 and on September 10, 1810 became captain II class and a member of the economic commission. During the campaign against Russia in 1812, Rex was able to prove himself several times and was awarded the Cross of the French Legion of Honor and the Knight's Cross of the Military Order of St. Henry . Even before the autumn campaign began , Rex was promoted to major on July 25, 1813 . As such, he and his troops initially fought on the side of Napoleon , before Rex, like most of the Saxon forces, sided with the Allies. He then took part in the siege of Torgau and then transferred to Prussian services . In spring 1815 he was employed in the 5th Westphalian Landwehr Regiment. Rex fought with the regiment at the Battle of Ligny and was wounded during the battle at Issy. For his achievements shown there, he received the Iron Cross II. Class and the Order of St. Anna II. Class.

On October 27, 1815, Rex became a lieutenant colonel and on March 18, 1816 he joined the 2nd Minden Landwehr Regiment. Here he was on duty until 7 March 1820 was then in the re-formation of the militia appointed commander of the 15th Landwehr Regiment and in this position on March 30, 1823 to Colonel promoted. Rex retired from active service on May 9, 1829 with a pension and received the character of major general on August 11, 1833 .

Rex married Marianne Auguste von Heßler (1793–1869) from the house of Vitzenburg on October 25, 1810 in Prittag . The following children were born from the marriage:
