Karl Graf (born October 27, 1906 , † January 1956 ) was an Austrian football player .

Club career

After several positions at lower class clubs, Graf made his debut in the I. League for FC Ostmark in 1923 . After the end of the season he moved to Vienna , where he was only used very rarely and went to Floridsdorfer AC in 1926 . There he was able to secure a regular place as a right defender and, after a successful 1927 season, received an offer from FK Austria Wien , who was looking for a successor to Johann Tandler , who had migrated to the USA . Graf switched to the Ober-St. Veitern, where he would spend the next seven years of his career. First he formed a defensive duo with Emil Regnard , then with the returned Tandler, before he was used as a right wing runner from 1929. When Tandler left the club again, Graf took over the position in the defense again, where he subsequently mostly played with Walter Nausch .

During this time Austria could never play for the title in the championship, mostly it was only enough for a place in the middle of the table. Graf was only able to win his first title in 1933, when Austria won the ÖFB Cup with a 1-0 win against Brigittenauer AC , which also meant participation in the Mitropacup . After victories over Slavia Prague and Juventus Turin , the Violets were in the final, where Ambrosiana Inter Milan were defeated 3-1 in the second leg after a 1: 2 in Milan.

In 1934 Graf left Austria and worked for the Vienna Sport Club until 1942 . The greatest successes during this time were the runner-up title in the 1937/38 season and reaching the cup finals twice, which was lost to Vienna in 1937 and to the Schwarz-Rot Wien sports club in 1938 .

National team

In May 1928 Graf ran for the first time for the national team when the Yugoslavs were defeated 3-0 in Vienna . The competition on the right side of defense at that time with Karl Rainer and Roman Schramseis, however, was high class and so Graf was only considered in the Vienna city team for the next few years. The second and last assignment in the national team followed in July 1932, when association captain Hugo Meisl sent a team to the field for an international match in Stockholm, which consisted mainly of players from the teams from Austria and Admira who were on a Scandinavian tour . With the 4: 3 against the Swedes , Graf also played in the wonder team era.
