Karl Heinrich Hermann Ludolf Bonaventura Count von der Goltz (born November 19, 1803 in Groß-Teschendorf , Riesenburg district , † January 27, 1881 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Karl Heinrich was the son of Karl Anton Ferdinand Graf von der Goltz (1760–1837) and his wife Elisabeth, born von Katzler (1775–1834) from the house of Groß-Münsterberg. The Prussian Foreign Minister August Friedrich Ferdinand Graf von der Goltz was his uncle.

Military career

In his youth, Goltz attended the Joachimsthal Gymnasium in Berlin and on September 20, 1823, he joined the 1st Guard Regiment on foot in the Prussian Army as a fusilier . There he was appointed Portepeefähnrich on July 21, 1824 and promoted to Second Lieutenant on March 15, 1825 . As such, Goltz was adjutant of the training infantry battalion from 1835 to 1839 . He then rose to regimental adjutant and was promoted in this position on April 14, 1841 to prime lieutenant. At the same time as his promotion to captain , Goltz was appointed company commander on April 19, 1846 .

After General Karl von Prittwitz was appointed Commander in Chief of the German Armed Forces in the Schleswig-Holstein War , Goltz became its adjutant on March 22, 1849. After the end of the war, Goltz returned to the 1st Guard Regiment on foot and was promoted to Major on November 13, 1851 . From September 16, 1852 to October 6, 1854, Goltz was director of the divisional school of the Guard Corps and on July 16, 1855 was given command of the teaching battalion . After Mülbe's recovery, Goltz was given command of the combined guard brigade. The Austrian allies awarded Goltz for his achievements on August 21, 1864 with the Commander's Cross of the Leopold Order with war decoration. After the Peace of Vienna and the time of occupation, Goltz was again commander of the 3rd Guard Infantry Brigade on December 17, 1864. On July 10, 1865, Goltz was put up for disposal with a pension and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves and swords on the ring .

On the occasion of the mobilization at the beginning of the German War , Goltz was reused and received orders for all in the area of III. Army Corps immobile units of the Guard Infantry. After the end of the war, he was released from this position on September 22, 1866, conferring the character of Lieutenant General.

Goltz married Natalie Theophile Josephine Countess von Roedern (1813-1902) on November 4, 1839 in Gnadenfrei . The following children were born from the marriage:
