Karl Herner

Karl Herner (also: Carl Herner ; born January 23, 1836 in Rendsburg , † July 16, 1906 in Hanover ) was a German violinist , repetitor , music director, royal bandmaster and composer .

Life

From 1852 to 1855, Karl Herner studied music at the Prague Conservatory , especially for the violin and the piano . In addition, he was temporarily a student of Joseph Joachim .

Herner appeared as a musician in orchestras in Hamburg , Kiel , Copenhagen , Brussels and Braunschweig before he worked in Hanover from 1858.

In Hanover, Karl Herner appeared as a member of the first quartet led by Joseph Joachim, mainly with works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Woldemar Bargiel . As a pianist, he also accompanied the Belgian violinist and composer Henri Vieuxtemps and the Italian opera singer Carlotta Patti on their tours through Europe .

At the time of the Kingdom of Hanover , Karl Herner became a member of the Hanoverian Artists' Association based in the royal seat in 1864 .

Also in Hanover, Herner's son Julius Herner was born on July 27, 1866 .

After Herner initially worked as a repetitor at the Hanoverian court theater , he was appointed choir director in 1869, and then music director in 1877. From 1887 Herner worked in Hanover with the title of Kapellmeister before retiring in 1900.

In addition to his management duties, Herner also emerged as a composer, primarily with songs and choral songs as well as orchestral works such as for the ballet " Das Hexenfest ", recitatives for Carl Maria von Weber's Oberon and overtures to the operas Schön Rottraut and Jussuff and Suleika .

Karl Herner died in Hanover in 1906. His grave can be found in the Engesohde city cemetery in Department 30 , grave number 1253–1254 .
