Karl Wilhelm Bünting , von Bünting since 1768 (born November 1, 1738 in Königshof near Elbingerode , † January 20, 1809 in Ratibor ) was a Prussian major general and chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 12 .

Life

His parents were the Prussian head forester and forester of the Hohenstein County Johann Gottfried Bünting and his wife Katharine Dorothea Oppermann.

Military career

During the Seven Years' War , Bünting came into the cuirassier regiment No. 5 of the Prussian army in 1759 . So he took part in the battles of Kunersdorf , Liegnitz , Torgau , Freiberg as well as the battle near Brandt and the siege of Schweidnitz . He became a cornet on January 17, 1760 and a lieutenant on May 24, 1763.

On November 2, 1768, he was raised to the nobility for his achievements in the war . On June 15, 1772 was Staff Captain and on September 16, 1778 captain and company commander in the regiment of cuirassiers # 5. He took the 1778/79 War of Bavarian Succession in part, was on November 18, 1786 Major and on February 9, 1793 Lieutenant Colonel . In addition, Bünting received on May 16, 1793 the order Pour le Mérite . As such, he took part in the fighting in Poland in 1794/95 . On February 3, 1795 he became a colonel and on October 14, 1800 commander of the cuirassier regiment. On May 20, 1803 he became major general with a patent from May 22, 1803. On December 12, 1803 he was appointed chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 12. During the Fourth Coalition War , Bünting was wounded in the Battle of Auerstedt . He died after the war on January 20, 1809 in Ratibor.

Bünting was married several times. First he married on July 13, 1775 in Belgard at the Persante Charlotte Luise Henriette von Zitzewitz (* March 5, 1759, † February 14, 1784) from the house of Zitzewitz. Then he married on June 28, 1792 in Culp Friederike Amalie Tugendreich von Diethert from the House of Hohengrape (born November 28, 1753). The following children were born from the first marriage:
