Karl Wilhelm von Wnuck (born January 28, 1788 in Zemmen , † September 16, 1863 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Origin and family

Karl Wilhelm was a member of the Zemmener tribe of the Pomeranian - Pomeranian noble family von Wnuck , from which numerous members joined the Prussian army . His parents were the landowners to Zemmen A and C, Ernst Ludwig von Wnuck and Hedwig Elisabeth von Schmude a. d. H. Zemmen.

Wnuck married Luise Sophie Charlotte Auguste von Heydebreck (1803–1858), daughter of Georg Christian von Heydebreck (1765–1828) in Berlin in 1821 . There were no children from the marriage. The children of his brother Franz Ludwig von Wnuck († 1838) were heirs.

Military career

Wnuck began his military career in 1798 as a cadet at the Stolp cadet institute before he was transferred to the Berlin cadet institute in 1804 . In 1806 he joined the infantry regiment (No. 3) as a private corporal and took part in the Fourth Coalition War , in particular the battle of Auerstedt and the siege of Magdeburg , after which he was briefly inactive. After 1809 Portepee ensign in kolbergischen Infantry Regiment (no. 9) for 1811 as well as second lieutenant was promoted, he first participated in the Prussian campaign of 1812 and then to the wars of liberation in part. Wnuck was wounded in the battle near Eckau, received the order Pour le Mérite on September 1, 1812 , fought in the Battle of Großgörschen and the Battle of Bautzen , where he earned the Iron Cross 2nd class. In 1832 Wnuck received the service cross . In 1840 he became a battalion commander in the Kaiser Franz Grenadier Regiment and was promoted to lieutenant colonel in the following year . In 1843 Wnuck was honored with the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class. At the same time as he was promoted to colonel , he was also commander of Weichselmünde in 1844.
