Karl Friedrich Adolph von Malachowski and Griffa (born May 2, 1783 on Buttkuhnen , † September 18, 1844 in Glatz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commandant of the Glatz fortress .

Life

origin

Karl comes from an old family of soldiers. Even the grandfather Paul Joseph Malachow von Malachowski became Prussian lieutenant general under King Friedrich II. His parents were Friedrich von Malachowski and Griffa (1743–1794) and his wife Antoinette Juliane, born von Foller (* December 22, 1756; † 1822).

Military career

On April 9, 1794, Malachowski came to Berlin as a cadet and from there on December 25, 1795 to the Academie Militaire . On March 22, 1801 he became a cornet in the "von Goeckingk" hussar regiment of the Prussian Army and on March 2, 1804, he was promoted to second lieutenant . During the Fourth Coalition War fought in the skirmishes near Criewitz, Lübeck and Waren. After the surrender after the battle of Lübeck , he was captured.

After the Peace of Tilsit , Malachowski was aggregated to the Leib-Ulanen-Regiment on February 27, 1809 . In 1809 he briefly joined the black crowd of Duke Friedrich Wilhelm von Braunschweig-Oels . He received his resignation on April 24, 1809 with permission to go into foreign services, but was transferred to the Silesian Uhlan Regiment as Prime Lieutenant on July 5, 1809 . There he rose on December 24, 1812 to the staff assistant master . On March 10, 1813, he was transferred to the adjutantage. During the Wars of Liberation , Malachowski fought in the battles near Großgörschen and Bautzen . In Kulm he was wounded and with the Iron Cross awarded II. Class. Malachowski also fought near Leipzig , Laon , Paris , Bunzlau, Haynau , Breslau, Dresden, Liebertwolkwitz , Tauche, Neuilly, Sezanne, Pontavert and Claye . In the meantime he had been promoted to Rittmeister in the Adjutantur on November 14, 1813 , and on May 24, 1814, he was aggregated into the Silesian Uhlan Regiment. On March 17, 1815 he received the Order of St. Vladimir IV Class. After being promoted to major on March 30, 1815, he was commanded to serve as a wing adjutant to King Friedrich Wilhelm III. In addition, on April 27, 1815, he was aggregated to the Guard Hussar Regiment .

After the war, Malachowski was appointed the king's wing adjutant on December 29, 1816. On April 3, 1820, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel without a patent and on November 13, 1821, he was transferred to the Guard Cuirassier Regiment for service . At the end of the month Malachowski was appointed commander of the Guard Hussar Regiment. On March 30, 1826 he was promoted to colonel with a patent from April 3, 1826. As such, Malachowski was appointed commander of the 8th Cavalry Brigade on June 1, 1832 and promoted to major general on March 30, 1835 with a patent from April 4, 1835 . On August 19, 1837 he received the Order of the Red Eagle II. Class with Oak Leaves and on October 15, 1838 the Russian Order of Saint Stanislaus I Class. On April 7, 1842, he was transferred to the Schweidnitz fortress as commandant, but on April 19, 1842, Malachowski became commandant of Glatz. In this position he was promoted to lieutenant general on March 22, 1843. He died surprisingly on September 18, 1844 in Glatz.

family

Malachowski married on November 8, 1808 in Pitschen (Striegau district) Amalie Sylvia von Ziemietzky (* 1786, † December 18, 1826), the daughter of the former Rittmeister . D. and city director of Pitschen Johann von Ziemietzky. The couple had several children:

  • Friedrich Sylvius Ferdinand (born October 3, 1810 - † November 27, 1893), Colonel ret. D., last director of the Cadet House in Bensberg ⚭ September 30, 1840 Maria de Chambourg (* February 2, 1822; † January 31, 1877)
  • Karl Heinrich Johann (born March 9, 1814), captain

  • Friedrich Wilhelm Alexander (born September 9, 1817 - † May 14, 1846), second lieutenant in the 38th Infantry Regiment
  • Friedrich Wilhelm Paul (born November 17, 1819 - † August 25, 1864), captain in the 38th Infantry Regiment
  • Ferdinand Leopold Anton (born March 26, 1821 - † June 30, 1874), retired lieutenant colonel. D.
  • Amalie Antoinette Julia (April 29, 1823 - October 12, 1825)
  • Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig Ernst (born February 9, 1825), second lieutenant in the 38th Infantry Regiment, received his emigration permit on December 17, 1853, joined the American army and was retired on May 15, 1866 (Frederick William Louis Malachowski Griffa)

After the death of his first wife, Malachowski married on February 17, 1833 in Erfurt Friederike Auguste Ferdinandine Straß (* May 17, 1807; † October 21, 1876), the second daughter of the school director in Erfurt Johann Gottlieb Friedrich Straß (1766-1845). The couple had several children:

  • Karl Friedrich Ferdinand Ernst (born June 28, 1836)
  • Alexandra Charlotte Ferdinande Amalie Wilhelmine Thekla (born July 4, 1838)
