Wilhelm von Malachowski and Griffa (born July 14, 1815 in Opole , † April 4, 1872 in Breslau ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 21st Infantry Brigade .

Life

Wilhelm was a son of the Prussian lieutenant general Karl von Malachowski and Griffa (1783-1844) and his first wife Amalie Sylvia, born von Ziemietzky (1786-1826).

Military career

Malachowski visited the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin . Subsequently, on August 7, 1832, he was transferred as a second lieutenant to the 31st Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army in Erfurt . For further training he completed the General War School from October 1838 to June 1840 . Starting in September 1840, he was assigned to the Pioneer Company in Mainz for two months and from February 4, 1841 to the Cadet Corps. In mid-April 1845 Malachowski was promoted to prime lieutenant . During the autumn exercises he was commanded on August 7, 1846 for service with the Guard Jäger Battalion and on August 7, 1849 for the Guard Artillery Regiment . After he was transferred to the 19th Infantry Regiment on September 25, 1849 , he was promoted to captain and company commander in mid-November 1850 . In 1855 Malachowski was ordered to try shooting with the Minié rifle at the rifle factory in Spandau , and the following year he took part in similar attempts in Breslau. He was promoted to major on January 9, 1858, and to lieutenant colonel on October 18, 1861 . On December 18, 1864 he was appointed commander of the 3rd Upper Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 62 in Ratibor and in this position he rose to colonel on June 18, 1865 . The following year Malachowski took part in the German War .

On the occasion of the festival of the Order, Malachowski received the Crown Order III in January 1867 . Class and the following year the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with a bow. In position à la suite of his regiment, he was appointed commander of the 21st Infantry Brigade stationed in Breslau on June 9, 1868 and promoted to major general on July 3, 1868. During the war against France , Malachowski led his large unit in the bombardment of Pfalzburg , the enclosure of Paris and in the battles at L'Haÿ , Chevilly , Champigny and Brie . For his work he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class. Malachowski died on April 4, 1872 in Breslau.

On January 1, 1870, his commanding general Wilhelm von Tümpling said in an assessment: "He is a thoroughly good brigade commander in every direction and has proven this in the course of the year at every opportunity and also in the practical results."

He married Klara von Steinach (1824–1901) in Berlin on July 15, 1845, and buried on November 11, 1901 in the Invalidenfriedhof. The couple had three children.
