Karl Ernst Gustav Heinrich von Roehl (born April 13, 1819 in Berlin , † November 30, 1891 in Hanover ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Karl was a son of the later Prussian Lieutenant General Karl von Roehl and his wife Elisabeth Friederike, born von Malschitzky (1795–1831).

Military career

Roehl visited the cadet house in Berlin from August 1832 and on April 18, 1836 was transferred as a second lieutenant to the Kaiser Franz Grenadier Regiment of the Prussian Army . From October 1, 1840 to April 1, 1841 he was assigned to the rifle factory in Potsdam . This was followed by further training at the General War School from October 1, 1841 to June 30, 1844 .

During the revolution of 1848 he took part in the street fighting in Berlin and then fought in the war against Denmark in the battle near Schleswig. His promotion to Prime Lieutenant took place on June 17, 1848. On May 1, 1849 he was commanded to the topographic office . But from June 1, 1849 to February 1, 1851 he was a company commander in the mobile 2nd battalion of the 4th Guards Landwehr Regiment. In 1849 he fought in the Baden Revolution and took part in the battles at Kirchheimbolanden , Neudorf, Wiesenthal and Kuppenheim. On June 22, 1852 he was promoted to captain and on November 11, 1854 appointed as a company commander in the Kaiser Franz Grenadier Regiment. On May 31, 1859 he became major and 2nd in command of the 2nd Battalion of the 1st Guards Landwehr Regiment in Stettin . As early as July 1, 1860 he was commanded as battalion leader of the 1st Combined Guard Infantry Regiment, shortly afterwards on July 1, 1860 he was appointed commander of the 2nd Battalion of the 3rd Foot Guards Regiment . On March 11, 1863, he was transferred to the 1st Battalion of the Queen Elisabeth Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 3 as commander.

In the war with Denmark in 1864 Roehl took part in the battle of Fredericia and the assault on the Düppeler Schanzen . On June 25, 1864 he became a lieutenant colonel . On May 20, 1866, he became commander of the 1st Guards Grenadier Landwehr Regiment for the duration of the mobile situation. After the war he was aggregated into the Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 3 in mid-September 1866, shortly thereafter promoted to Colonel and as such appointed commander of Infantry Regiment No. 71 on October 30 . On July 18, 1870 he received command of the 2nd Guards Landwehr Brigade for the duration of the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , with which Roehl took part in the pursuit of the French from Strasbourg to Paris , as well as in the battle near Blaru . For his behavior in the battle of Alençon , he received the Iron Cross, 2nd class. On December 10, 1870 he was appointed commander of the 43rd Infantry Brigade and promoted to major general on January 18, 1871. He received the Commander's Cross 1st Class of the Duke of Saxony-Ernestine House Order on August 26, 1871 and the Iron Cross 1st Class on October 13, 1871.

On the occasion of the festival of the Order, Roehl was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves, in January 1875 . On January 2, 1876, he was then awarded the character as a lieutenant general with board for disposition made.

Roehl had married Marie von Borcke (1826-1903) on January 5, 1853 in Berlin . She divorced her first husband Friedrich Wilhelm Georg Bernhard von Prittwitz and Gaffron (1816–1863) in 1848 . Her parents were Heinrich Friedrich Karl von Borcke (1790–1875) and his wife Ida Friederike Auguste Eleonore von Prittwitz and Gaffron (1806–1845).
