Karl Ernst Ludwig von Roehl (born May 22, 1795 in Berlin ; † February 10, 1885 there ) was a Prussian lieutenant general of the artillery .

Life

origin

He was the son of General Ernst Andreas von Röhl and his wife Friedrike Wilhelmine, born von Fiebig (1765–1838). General Johann Ernst Gustav von Roehl (1799–1867) was his brother.

Military career

Roehl joined the Brandenburg Artillery Brigade of the Prussian Army as a bombardier on February 1, 1811 and was promoted to secondary lieutenant by mid-February 1813 . During the war of liberation he took part in the sieges of Maubeuge , Landrecies , Philippeville , Mariembourg and Givet . At Givet he received the Order of Saint Anne III. Class. He also took part in the battles of Großbeeren , Dennewitz , Laon , Ligny , Waterloo and the battles near Königsborn , Vehlitz , Halle , Hoyerswerda , Dessau and Villers-Cotterêts, and he also took part in the assault on Arnhem . At Wittstock he acquired the Iron Cross II class and at Namur the Russian Order of St. Vladimir IV class.

After the war, Roehl joined the Guards Artillery Brigade as Prime Lieutenant on May 23, 1816 and rose to Major and 5th Staff Officer by early May 1834 . On April 23, 1836 he was appointed adjutant to the General Inspectorate of Artillery and on May 12, 1836, aggregated to the Guards Artillery Brigade . In 1839 he was awarded the Russian Order of Saint Stanislaus II Class. On November 13, 1843 he was department commander of the Guards Artillery Brigade and a member of the examination committee for the first lieutenant of the artillery. On February 27, 1844, he was initially assigned to lead the 6th Artillery Brigade, at the end of March 1844 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and finally on January 14, 1845, he was appointed brigadier. In this position he was promoted to colonel on March 27, 1847, and on March 21, 1849, he was commander of the artillery under General Karl von Prittwitz in Schleswig-Holstein . On December 4, 1849, he was appointed commander of the 6th Landwehr Brigade and on January 10, 1850 he was aggregated to the 6th Artillery Brigade. On November 4, 1851, he was promoted to major general . On May 4, 1852, he was transferred to the 11th Infantry Brigade as commander. On March 22, 1853, Roehl was again in command of Königsberg and in January 1856 was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. Under awarding of the character he was on 30 May 1857 as a lieutenant general board for disposition made.

After his death, Roehl was buried in the Matthäusfriedhof on February 14th .

family

Roehl married Elisabeth Friederike von Malschitzky (1795–1831) in Berlin on March 21, 1817 . She was the only daughter of Christian Ernst von Malschitzky (1750-1835), Prussian colonel and director of the Secret War Chancellery. The marriage produced several children, including:
