Katharina Bott (born February 26, 1941 in Mainz ), b. Schumacher, is a German art historian .

education

Katharina Bott attended the Maria Ward School (grammar school and vocational school) in Mainz , where she passed her Abitur in 1961. From 1961 to 1964 she studied German and English at the University of Freiburg , the Free University of Berlin , the Philipps University of Marburg and the University of Mainz . 1966 to 1968 followed a press traineeship at a business information service (WID) in Düsseldorf .

From 1975 to 1980, the study of art history followed at the University of Stuttgart with a master's thesis on the biblical female figures in Arnold Böcklin , and in 1985 she was at the University of Regensburg on the artistic works of August of food wine , founding director of the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg (then: Germanisches Museum ).

From 1970 to 1980 Katharina Bott worked as an editor for various specialist magazines , hospital procurement and - after a one-year stay in Taiwan in 1978 - the magazine Indo-Asia: Politics, Culture, Economy in India, South Asia, East Asia .

After completing her studies in art history, Katharina Bott worked at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum from 1981 to 1985. In 1982 she married its director at the time, the art historian Gerhard Bott . From 1986 to 1996 she was curator of the art collections of the Counts of Schönborn at Pommersfelden Castle .

In 1996, together with her husband, she curated the exhibition Vice versa: German painters in America - American painters in Germany, 1813–1913 at the German Historical Museum in Berlin. 1996–2001 she designed various exhibitions in the Middle East , Austria and Frankfurt am Main . B. on astronomical instruments from the collection of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum and on Friedrich Maximilian Hessemer . In 2006 she inventoried the Man at Work Collection at the Grohmann Museum in Milwaukee . In 2010/2011 she curated the exhibition Hanau Artists in Italy . From 2010 to 2012 she and her husband were city historians for Hanau.

Projects

Currently (2012) Katharina Bott is preparing an exhibition on Friedrich Bury (1763–1823), which is to be shown in the Historisches Museum Hanau , in Weimar and in Rome and is co-author of a catalog raisonné by the artist. In addition, she researches the history of the drawing academy in Hanau from its foundation in 1772 to 1900.
