Kerstin von der Betten (formerly Kerstin Odendahl ; * November 22, 1968 in Hamburg as Kerstin Brandt ) is a German lawyer and professor of international and European law .

Kerstin von der Betten was born in Hamburg and lived in Mexico City until 1982 . There she attended the German school "Alexander von Humboldt". After graduating from high school in 1988 at Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium in Leverkusen , she studied law and international relations at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , the Institut d'Etudes Politiques Aix-en-Provence and the University of Trier . In 2011 she accepted the call to the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel . There she holds the chair for public law with a focus on international law, European law and general political theory as well as co-director of the Walther Schücking Institute for International Law .

Guest professorships have taken Kerstin von derdecke to the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (2005), the Georgetown University Law Center, Washington DC (2007), the Universidad de Oviedo (2008) and the Karl-Franzens-University Graz (2010). Since 2009 she has held a permanent visiting professorship for international law at the Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi . In 2016 she was elected to the Academy of Sciences in Hamburg .

The main research areas of Kerstin von derdecke are the basics of international law and European law as well as international environmental law , cultural law and security law .
