The Keseberg near Ederbringhausen in the Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is a mountain in the basement forest . Its northeast tip ( ) is 431.2  m above sea level. NHN and its southwestern knoll ( ), usually labeled with Keseberg on maps, about 430  m high.

geography

location

The Keseberg rises in the western part of the Kellerwald-Edersee nature park in the southern municipality of Vöhl . Its highest point is 2 km east of Ederbringhausen , which is beyond the Eder , which passes the mountain in a south-north direction , about 5 km north-west is the center of the city of Frankenau and about 1.3 km east of the Altenlotheim district on the Lorfe .

Mountain height

According to the trigonometric point shown on topographic maps , the northeastern summit of the Keseberg, which is unnamed by name on many maps, is 431.2  m high. The south-west summit , usually labeled Keseberg on maps, is about 430  m high according to the contour lines visible on these maps ; its height is sometimes given as only 420  m , but this refers to one of the last contour lines visible below the south-west summit.

Around 250 m east-north-east of the elevation named Keseberg there lies the 422.5  m high saddle between the two peaks on a forest path . Its height makes it clear that we cannot really speak of two mountains, as the notch height of the south-west summit is only a few meters.

Natural allocation

The Keseberg is located roughly in the center of the Niederkellerwald natural area (No. 344.5) on the northwestern edge of the Kellerwald. In the natural spatial subdivision , it is already included in its middle part Lotheimer Täler (344.51), while the south-southeast neighboring Bracht with 442  m is only slightly higher than its southern part Frankenauer Flur (344.50). To the south lies the Hessensteiner Wald (332.32) with the Peterskopf ( 425.6  m ) on the other side of the Lengelbach in the Waldstruth (332.3), which is no longer counted as part of the Kellerwald and is mostly to the left of the Eder . To the left (= west) of the Eder, also in the Waldstruth with Leimestruth there (332.31), the mountain heights gradually decrease, while to the right (= east) of the valley of the Lorfe, which closes the Niederkellerwald, the Eder heights in the area of the Große Hardt (344.3) reach heights of sometimes more than 500  m only 3 km away and a maximum of 626.4  m with the Traddelkopf .

Protected areas

Parts of the Kellerwald bird sanctuary are located on the wooded Keseberg (VSG no. 4920-401; 263.99  km² ). To the west, its landscape falls into the conservation area Auenverbund Eder ( CDDA no. 378400, designated in 1993; 45.07 km² in size) with the local fauna-flora-habitat area Obere Eder (FFH no. 4917-350; 23.35 km²).

Castles

The ruins of the Keseburg (approx.  385  m ) stand on a northern foothill of the Keseberg and Hessenstein Castle (approx.  327  m ), today a hostel and conference center, is on a southern mountain spur above a stream .

Traffic and walking

To the west below the Keseberg runs along the Eder in the Schmittlotheim - Ederbringhausen - Viermünden section, the federal road 252 , from which the county road  85 branches off to the northwest of the mountain , in order to immediately cross the Eder on a bridge, to cross the Untere Edertalbahn on the other side and through the Ederbringhausen across the river to lead. For example, starting on the B 252, you can hike the mountain on several forest trails and paths. Two of them run just past the summit of the north-east knoll and another leads directly over the highest point of the south-west knoll. The Frankenau– Oberorke section of the Kellerwaldsteig , which passes Hessenstein Castle and Keseburg , runs west around the Keseberg . In addition, the Lichtenfels –Frankenau section of the Barbarossaweg runs past the mountain, which also passes Hessenstein Castle.
