Kickboxer: The Retribution (Original Title: Kickboxer: Vengeance ) is an American martial arts film and a remake of the 1989 film Karate Tiger 3 - The Kickboxer . The film was directed by John Stockwell and written by Dimitri Logothetis and Jim McGrath . The film was released in Germany on November 18, 2016 on DVD and Blu-ray .

Eric is a successful professional martial artist. As he is celebrating his championship title with his brother Kurt, the shady promoter Marcia shows up and promises Eric the fight of his life in Thailand. His opponent is the legendary, unbeaten Tong Po. Later Kurt has to watch how the deadly giant not only defeats Eric, but also breaks his neck in cold blood. With the support of David's former teacher Durand, Kurt tries to learn the art of Thai boxing in order to defeat his brother's murderer.

The role of Kurt Sloane , played by Alain Moussi, was played in the original film by Jean-Claude Van Damme, who now plays the role of Master Durand . Also seen in the film are the mixed martial arts experts Gina Carano (Fast & Furious 6) , Georges St-Pierre (Captain America 2: The Return of the First Avenger) and Guardians-of-the-Galaxy star Dave Bautista, who slips into the role of the Muay Thai champion Tong Po . Michel Qissi, the Tong Po of the original film, has a cameo in the remake. A sequel was announced for 2017 with Kickboxer: Die Abrechnung ( Kickboxer: Retaliation ). The publication took place in 2018.
