Stralsund church district
The Stralsund church district was one of four church districts of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church . It was formed on January 1, 1997 from the merger of the previous church districts of Barth, Rügen and Stralsund (or the provincial church-Pomeranian church districts of Barth, Bergen, Franzburg (partly), Garz a. Rügen and Stralsund). The official seat was the Hanseatic city of Stralsund . The Stralsund parish was incorporated into the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District at Pentecost 2012 when the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany was re-established ( “Northern Church” ) .
location
The Stralsund church district was located in the northeast of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and included the old districts of North Western Pomerania (northern part), Rügen and the area of the city of Stralsund .
In the area of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church, it formed the northern part of the regional church, to which the church districts Demmin and Greifswald bordered in the south. While the Baltic Sea formed the natural border in the north and east , in the west it was the Rostock church district (Propstei Ribnitz) of Mecklenburg's Evangelical Lutheran Church .
history
The Reformation gained a foothold in Stralsund relatively early. As early as 1525, their relatives replaced the Catholic majority in the council. A special arrangement was planned with Stralsund. In a letter to the city council in 1535, the Pomeranian reformer Johannes Bugenhagen proposed the establishment of a city superintendent, which, in addition to the regions of Barth , Grimmen and Tribsees, should also receive Rügen as a district. This corresponded to the area of the former archdeaconate Tribsees and Rügen. But this plan did not come to fruition, only Rügen was briefly administered by the Stralsund superintendent.
In 1570, the general superintendent of Pommern-Wolgast, Jacob Runge, considered the allocation of Voigdehagen, Mohrdorf , Pütte and Prohn to the Stralsund city superintendent. The Voigdehagen church had been the “moderkerke” of the three Stralsund parish churches St. Nikolai, St. Jakobi and St. Marien. But this division was not carried out either, since Stralsund did not want to give up its independence in favor of a superordinate general superintendent.
Following up on the ecclesiastical courts of the Middle Ages, a separate Stralsund consistory was established for the Stralsund city area in 1575 , which was not repealed as a church court until 1849.
If there were two general superintendents in Pomerania so far, namely Pommern-Wolgast (based in Greifswald) and Pommern-Stettin, in 1827 Carl Ritschl , royal consistorial councilor and preacher at the Berlin parish church of St. Marien , was appointed evangelical bishop and general superintendent for all of Pomerania. 52 district synods (church districts), including Stralsund, were subordinate to it.
After 1945 the abandoned consistory of the province of Pomerania zu Stettin was rebuilt in Greifswald, and the Pomeranian Evangelical Church was limited to the remaining area of Western Pomerania. 18 church districts were formed, one of them was Stralsund. On January 1, 1997, the changed Stralsund church district, which was merged with the church districts of Barth, Franzburg and Rügen, was created. The founding superintendent was Hans-Martin Moderow .
structure
The synod of the parish was the representation of the parishes. The district synod decided on the budget and all of the church district's own tasks. It was chaired by Church President , last incumbent was Tilman Reinecke .
The District Council of Churches was elected by the District Synod and heads the Church District between the District Synodal meetings. The chairmanship lay with the superintendent.
The superintendent was Helga Ruch . She was the leading clergyman of the church district and pastor and advisor to the departments and employees.
