Location of Kirnberg in Bavaria

Kirnberg is a district of the small Upper Bavarian town of Penzberg in the Weilheim-Schongau district . The village is about two kilometers northwest of the Penzberg town center.

Originally the Kirnberghof was a wasteland . Albero von Pruckberg sold this farm in 1295 to the Munich Angerkloster , in whose possession it remained until the secularization in 1803. In the local directory of 1925, Kirnberg is listed for the first time as a hamlet instead of a wasteland because of the settlement of some workers , and in 1950 it was finally classified as a village. From 1966 an industrial area was built in Kirnberg to provide jobs for the workers of the mine, which was closed in the same year . Among other things, large production halls were built for the manufacture of buses by MAN (today used by Hörmann Automotive Penzberg ).

Until 1935 Kirnberg belonged to the Roman Catholic parish of Antdorf and since then to the parish of Penzberg.

The Kirnberger Hof stands today at the western end of the village. The property and the grain box that originally belonged to it (today an inn) are both listed as historical monuments . See the list of architectural monuments in Penzberg

Kirnbergsee

The Kirnbergsee, located about 170 meters to the south, is named after the Kirnberghof .
