Sankt Johannisrain is a district of the small Upper Bavarian town of Penzberg in the Weilheim-Schongau district . The church village is about one and a half kilometers south of the Penzberg town center.
history
Sankt Johannisrain is mentioned for the first time as sand Iohanns Rain in 1332 in a document from Ludwig of Bavaria . The place is named after the local church of St. Johann . In 1487 Sankt Johannisrain consisted of a single courtyard next to the church, and in 1631/34 a second was created through division, both were now half courtyards .
With the first municipal edict, the tax district Sankt Johannisrain was created in 1808 , with the municipality edict of 1818 , the municipality of Sankt Johannisrain, consisting of 18 hamlets and wastelands, was created . Until 1911, the municipality of Sankt Johannisrain comprised what is now the urban area of Penzberg, then it was renamed “Penzberg”, as the miners' colony of the same name had a multiple of the population of the other parts of the municipality. In 1919 Penzberg was promoted to town .
Sankt Johannisrain was classified as a wasteland until 1864, then as a hamlet with a church until 1950 and finally as a church village .
The place belonged to the parish of St. Maria Sindelsdorf until the secularization . Since this was dissolved, Sankt Johannisrain now belongs to the parish of St. Georg Sindelsdorf.
