Location of Rain in Bavaria

Rain (also Männ or Moen ) is a district of the Upper Bavarian town of Penzberg in the Weilheim-Schongau district .

location

The hamlet is located about three kilometers east-southeast of the Penzberg town center on the southern flank of a Molasse ridge. Immediately to the south runs the Loisach , which crosses the Molasse a little to the east and forms a loop in which Rain is located. The river also forms the border with the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district here . The hamlet of Schönmühl with the Schönmühl hydroelectric power station is located about 600 meters to the west . Opposite on the right side of the Loisach is the Bichler district of Schögger am Rain .

State Road 2063 runs west of Rain .

history

Rain is probably the oldest of the Penzberg districts and was first mentioned in the 11th century. According to Karl Meichelbeck , aristocrats named themselves after Rain (namely Arnoldus de Rain) as early as the 12th century. This suggests that there was a nobility residence here, which was particularly protected by its location in the Loisach loop. Meichelbeck also reports on the great wealth of the farmers of Rain in the 15th century, who even lent and gave money to the Benediktbeuern monastery . After the name of a family resident at the time, the hamlet is sometimes also referred to as "Moen" or "Männ".

In 1919, 1927, 1934 and 1950, the residents of Rain submitted applications for a change of community from Penzberg to Bichl. The main reason for this was the increasing social differences between the residents of the up-and-coming mining town and the rural population of Rain. The “ Alte Schanze ” (“Schwedenschanze”) as a natural boundary and, connected to it, the parish boundary that ran there, was mentioned as further arguments . However, the applications were all rejected.

Rain belongs to the Catholic parish of St. Benedikt Benediktbeuern .
