Kirschentheuer , Slovenian Kožentavra , is a village with 250 inhabitants, cadastral and town of the town of Ferlach in southern Carinthia . It lies on the northern slope of the Karawanken , which form the Austrian border with Slovenia .

Location and landscape

Kirschentheuer is the most important crossing point in the Rosental (intersection of the important traffic routes Loiblpass Straße B 91 and Rosental Straße B 85). The closest town is the gunsmith town of Ferlach, three kilometers to the east . The Carinthian state capital Klagenfurt is located 13 km north of Kirschentheuer and can be reached via the B 91.

The part of the Karawanken that is visible from Kirschentheuer is dominated by the Ferlacher Horn (1850 m) and, on its eastern flank, the Sechter (1449 m). To the east of the Sechter you can see part of the Koschuta (2066 m) and the Matzen (1627 m). Looking directly to the east, you can see the Obirmassiv, consisting of Kleinobir (1948 m) and Hochobir (2142 m). The Petzen (2126 m) located at the extreme eastern end of the Karawanken can only be observed on clear days.

West of the Ferlacher Horn is the local mountain Kirschentheuer, the Singerberg (1589 m), on which tin and lead ore was mined from Windisch Bleiberg from the 14th to the 20th century. The Karawanken massif, with the Mittagskogel (2145 m), stretches from the Singerberg to Arnoldstein .

When visibility is good, Kirschentheuer can be seen from Villach's local mountain Dobratsch (2166 m) and some peaks of the Carnic Alps .

North of the Drau is the low mountain range of the Sattnitz, on which the medieval Hollenburg is clearly visible from Kirschentheuer .

Infrastructure

Site maintenance

The high number of inns is evidence of the former transit traffic in Kirschentheuer. Because before the construction of the Karawanken tunnel and the Karawanken A 11 motorway , the Loiblpass road B 91, which leads to the Loiblpass , was one of the most important connecting routes between Austria and Slovenia.

Kirschentheuer has its own swimming lake, the Ratz-Teich , which is named after the operator of the gravel works that created it and the adjacent inn and hotel. From March 6, 1781 to May 1, 1842, the first post office in the Rosental was located in today's Gasthaus Ratz . The two-storey building was completed at the end of the 18th century.

The volunteer fire brigade Kirschentheuer was founded on July 12, 1902.

Attractions

  • Carnica Bee Museum : It was launched in 1994, and in 2006 it was relocated from its original location, an outbuilding of Gasthof Ratz, to a barn specially adapted for this purpose. A child-friendly, eventful exhibition on the biology and ecology of bees, but also on the history of beekeeping and especially the local cultural and historical significance is offered there.
