Life

Klaus Daughtermann is the son of Werner Daughtermann . In 1983 he passed his Abitur at the Kiel School of Academics . From 1985 to 1991, daughter man studied computer science in Kiel (preliminary diploma) and Dortmund (diploma). In 1995 he completed a doctorate in computer science at the University of Dortmund with a thesis on "A model for hypermedia : description and integrated formalization of essential hypermedia concepts". In the year after his doctorate, Klaus Daughtermann spent a year as a post-doctoral student at the Texas A&M University , Center for the Studies of Digital Libraries, USA, on a Max Kade Foundation scholarship . His main focus during this time was the area of internet-based tools and services for digital libraries . From 1997 to 2000 he was division manager at the FAW Ulm .

From 2001 to 2010 he was the scientific director of the Know-Center research institute, a competence center for information technology knowledge management based in Austria . Together with Hermann Maurer , Klaus Daughtermann founded the I-KNOW conference series in 2001. In 2002 he completed his habilitation in “Applied Information Processing” at Graz University of Technology with a thesis on “Personalization in the Context of Digital Libraries and Knowledge Management”. From 2004 to 2010 he was a university professor (chair for knowledge management, applied information processing, digital libraries) and head of the Institute for Knowledge Management at Graz University of Technology. From 2007 to 2010 he also headed the Institute for Networked Media at Joanneum Research , an application-oriented research institution based in Graz.

Klaus Daughtermann has been director of the ZBW - Leibniz Information Center for Economics since 2010 and holds a professorship for digital information infrastructures at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel.

In 2012, the Leibniz Research Association Science 2.0 was founded on the initiative of Klaus Daughtermann. In the context of this research network, the question of the extent to which the social web changes research and publication processes and information infrastructure facilities can help shape these changes.

In 2014, the ZBW - Leibniz Information Center for Economy, headed by Klaus Daughtermann, received the national award "Library of the Year 2014" from the German Library Association.
